Hey,
I wrote to some one not so long ago about making / compressing videos.... I 
hope it helps....

The Best Program you can use is Adobe Premiere 6.0 (industry standard), but 
that is extremely expensive, you can get ummm slightly less then legal 
version on P2P programs (KaZaa, WinMX, etc.) but if you want a good cheap / 
free program try STOIK's VideoMan 
(http://stoik.com/products/videoman/vm1_main.htm) and then use TMPGEnc 
(www.tmpgenc.com) to encode them in MPEG's or STOIK's Video Converter 
(http://stoik.com/products/morphman/mm30_svc_demo.htm) to encode into AVI 
or WMV.

Make sure you install the Nimo Codec Pack 
(http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html) for all the really 
good compression codecs, I recommend DivX 5.2 for the best codec.
