Hi Alex,
Thank you for the compliment on the story, :-) . That was something we
really couldn't explain in the story, but I'm happy to explain it though.
In 2000 after several years of back-deals, strong-arm tactics and blackmail,
all of Europe (not including the old USSR, Turkey, and Asia) was
successfully united under the banner of United Europe and over the next year
calls for a globalization under a united world government (under UE
leadership of course <grin>) is pressed by the UE. Trying similar strong-arm
tactics in South America the UE 'convinces' Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay,
French Guyana, Surinam and Venezuela to join the new order under the banner
of the "United Earth" government.
Rising tensions between member nations caused cracks to appear in the UE
govt and in 2002 several member nations break away (Germany, England and
Japan) over UE tactics. Using their newfound power and influence the UE
calls for the United States to join them and disband our military forces.
After being advised against it the President declines the UE's 'offer' and a
series of confrontations occur over the next 6 mos. between 'protesters'
and US political and military stations overseas.
The final straw occurs when 'protesters' attack and overrun the US Embassy
in Paris, a US naval task force sends air units (consistin of 5 RH-53D
SeaStallion helicopters, 12 F-21 and F-18D fighers and 15 F-15C's, yes i
really worked out the details of the rescue <G>) to evacuate the embassy,
but this causes the US to declare war on the UE shortly after when it learns
that the forces that attacked the US Embassy were backed by UE tanks and
infantry.
And that's how we got a war <BG>

Thank you, thank you, thank you for another chapter in
this amazing story. I ran across this several months
ago on the Hand Of Chaos site and have been hoping for
more. This really is good - please continue. One
question I do have (and this is minor really) - what
is the war about? I spent some time this weekend
re-reading the story and couldn't pick up on it. Just
curious.
