Okay, so I'm weird....

Oh, I remembered Buffy having seen it--I just didn't think **all** of
the pennies were dropping when she said "talisman". Perhaps I'm not
crediting her acuity enough (might have something to do with her taste
in men, given my prejudices--I dunno).

And say, wouldn't Buffy in previous seasons have informed Xander what
was up as she was heading after Dawn? And wouldn't Xander have
followed? Of course then they couldn't string us along with Buffy
hiding Spike (which won't be anything like her hiding Angel in Season 3,
right), so Xander has to stay out of the action.

OTOH, as contrived as Spike's help was in this ep, I could actually get
into seeing him as some sort of DementedGiles for Shiny McSlayer (my
hatred for that concept and the (s)Crappy Gang aside). Dawnie has a
problem, Spike gibbers insanely, Dawnie shakes him to semi-lucidity and
finally Spike gives up the info. Could be fun, at least for a few
times.

But yeah, the fact that the only person with Buffy at the time just
happens to be the one with the info she needs (and can help her despite
only hearing Buffy's half of the conversation and being, y'know,
insane!), well, that is a contrivance, pure and simple.
