Well, "second-guessing" of characters aside...

...and I think that quite a few characters have been arbitrarily jerked
into new roles over the years, arguably tarnishing one's previous
enjoyment of eps--I mean, that Willow/Jonathan interrogation scene in
"Earshot" isn't quite so funny now that they're both *murderers*, is it?
I sincerely doubt that Joss planned that all along, and even if he did,
it doesn't matter, because I enjoyed that scene based on the existing
canon interpretation of the characters, so I still feel like Joss has
peed on my memories, no matter whether he was always setting me up to be
violated...

(perhaps I'm sensitive after a summer of reading boards that retconned
every single moment Willow ever asserted herself as "See! She was
powerhungry and vindictive even then! Evil! Evil, I tell you!" [I
mean, telling Cordy to hit "deliver" in "The Harvest", for fuck's
sake...], and alternating that with declaring every time Willow felt
pain as "See, she was always jealous of Buffy, because Xander didn't
love her! She never liked Buffy! She always hated her!" Exposure to
Jossholes can be damaging to your emotional health) 

...even aside from all that, it's pretty much a fact that the eps lack
pace and humor these days, which can hardly be of the good. Dreary
stories told slowly and simply do not make for good television, IMO.

(I mean, I watched "Dead Man's Party" the other night--which, I remind
you, is a Marti Noxon-written Angst-a-thon--and I was amazed at the
amount of "smile moments" in the ep. Equal to at least 4 or 5 Season
Sux eps.)

And since there are a number of issues that make me gag, even if I were
to go with ME's take on the characters, I'm not inclined to go with the
flow.

Yes, Aly pretty. I can see Aly being pretty without watching these eps,
though. Better a hundredth viewing of "Bad Eggs" than a first one of
"Grave", IMO. (And besides, if the show were put out of its misery,
she'd be able to do more movies! Cool.)
