I figure it's more metaphorical--vampires, while they don't *need* to
breathe, can inhale and exhale if they chose, but they don't have the
"breath of life". Feel free to connect this with Angel's "The thoughts
are there, but they create no reflection" line in "Earshot".

Personally, what I want to know is why, when Spike is smoking in
"Becoming, Part 2", the smoke is coming out of HIS NECK?? Does he have
gills or something? (This bugs me no end).
