Re: Shipping at length(slight spoiler for Charmed)

I never saw the 'I like the world' speech as the truth, Dan, but even if it
is, it isn't a sign that Spike is a 'nice guy'. Only a sign that Spike is
self-centered. He didn't want to stop Angelus out of the goodness of his
heart, but out of a desire to screw Angelus and get Dru back. He succeeded
in one and failed in the other. As Buffy said in that same scene, "Let me
take this opportunity to not care!"

Let's face it, pals and gals, the only reason that anyone, Joss included,
wants to see Buffy and Spike together is that Sarah Michelle Gellar and James
Marsters have a volatile on-screen chemistry. Of course, so did Bruce Willis
and Cybil Sheppard in 'Moonlighting', and the moment they got into bed
together, the show fell apart before our eyes! There is romantic chemistry,
and there is adversarial chemistry. Bruce and Cybil had the latter more than
the former. Same goes with Sarah and James. Get them together and the whole
idea is lost.

The only way that Joss can salvage this situation is for Spike to lose his
soul at the first possible opportunity and, to paraphrase the Beatles, get
back to where he once belonged. Personally I don't see him as wanting
redemption, let alone receiving it.

You know the show's in trouble when Charmed is covering similar territory and
handling it better. In Charmed's season premiere at least, Phoebe told Cole
in no uncertain terms that it's over between them.
