Re: Feedback and Personal Commentary

Meg,

First of all, sorry to hear about your health problems. My best wishes
to you as you deal with them.

Second, I'm delighted to find out that the BtVS fandom is far better
than others at giving feedback.

Third, I agree with you that feedback is not a necessity nor should it
be an author's primary motivation to write. I strongly disagree with
writers abandoning fics or "taking them away" from readers they believe
to be unresponsive.

That said, you almost seemed to be scolding authors for wanting fb, and
I, personally, wouldn't go that far. I think it's perfectly all right
for someone to make an occasional appeal for input, just so long as they
don't make it the sun around which their writing revolves.

IMO, writing is dinner and getting feedback is dessert. It's the
writing that's important and feedback should always be subordinate to
the work itself, but it's not like dessert isn't fun, too.

Anyway, I'm glad to see more feedback on this list, and now it's up to
the authors to keep coming up with the oh-so-feedbackable fics. And
thank you very much for your input.

Best,

Dan
