Re: Beneath You review
A
few
more
thoughts
on
the
episode
mostly
stolen
from
the Television Without Pity message boards
1) Don't they have phones in England? I mean, not only should Buffy
and Xander be calling to check on Giles and Willow, and not only could
Giles allay Willow's anxieties by getting Xander on the phone and having
him tell her it's okay--
--which it better damn well be when she comes back next ep, because I'm
worried that Jane Espenson is going to forget all about "Grave" to pile
on the Willow-angst. If Jane wants Buffy and Dawn to reject Willow at
first, fine, but Xander has **already forgiven** her, remember? He
loves crayon-breaky Willow AND he loves scary, veiny Willow, does that
ring any bells? I'm going to be real pissed if Will gets anything but a
hug from him.--
--but aside from all that, you might think that Giles would want to
tell Buffy about the Hellmouth opening. It sounds kind of important,
you know.
2) ASH's commitments aside, why isn't Giles coming back? I thought the
two things we learned in "Grave" were "Xander loves Willow
unconditionally and can forgive her no matter what" and:
"Giles was wrong to go away--Buffy and the others need him too much."
So, where is he? Explain, please.
3) So, let me get this straight, as far as Buffy and Xander know,
Anyanka has been hanging out at the Bronze all summer, granting Wishes
and causing mayhem? Yeah, Halfrek said that Anyanka hadn't killed
anyone, but B/X don't know that, and you'd think they might want to put
a stop to this, before they wake up in the World Without Shrimp, or
something.
As character assassination goes, it's not quite up to Buffy's not
hunting down Harmony in Season 5, while she was cleverly hanging out at
Spike's crypt between murders, but it's still ridiculous. I mean,
Season 2 Buffy would probably have slain Anyanka by this point. At
least let us know that Buffy is monitoring the situation and is going to
kick the living shit out of Anyanka for what she did to Ronny.
4) IF Spike wasn't Spike and a menace and a murderer and all that, I
could actually deal with the B/S relationship as it was during the
portion of the ep where (alas) Spike was faking being his old self. I
think it'd be funny if Buffy had someone in her life she couldn't get
rid of but couldn't believe she'd ever slept with. Sort of like having
Parker still be around, and her having to tolerate him.
5) Speaking of sleeping, I see by the teaser that Buffy has moved into
Joyce/Willow's old room. Why?
BECAUSE BUFFY IS A MOMMY, THAT'S WHY. SHE MUST HAVE THE MOMMY ROOM.
Oh, shut up, Joss.
Anyway, anvils aside (and the fact that Buffy will probably get killed
at the end of the year, so of course she has to get Joyce and Tara's old
room), this upsets me because it means that the shot of Willow in the
credits isn't Willow in Buffy's bedroom, but Willow in Buffy's
**former** bedroom. I mean, it's slightly 'shippy if that's where Will
is living now (although it's not like she's sleeping in Buffy's bed,
because Buffy moved that with her), but I want Willow in pajamas to be
in the bedroom with Buffy, damnit! I mean, no more snuggles? :(
Okay, it probably makes sense that Buffy moves Willow out of the room
where Tara died, but I wanted to see her in Buffy's bedroom, dressed for
bed. And then UNdressed for bed...oh well.
