You do remember that he was very, VERY hesitant at
first, and really didn't know they were going to
attempt the spell a second time, due to his being held
captive by the fang gang.

Secondly, anyone who know jack squat about magicks,
does know that it can be dangerous to perform some
spells, but its the risk you have to take. 

Thirdly...HE ALWAYS TOLD HER THAT IT WOULD BE HARD. 
Also, Willow did a lot, and i mean ALOT of spells in
secret, as said in Dead Man's party.

The fact is, not only did Giles truly step up to bat,
I do agree he should have trained her, or asked for
someone to help, but Buffy did help push her into it. 
I mean Tough Love, I would never, EVER have left
Willow alone if I were buffy.
