A headstone doesn't really offer any proof of how the deceased was "processed". There can be a body buried beneath the ground, or simply cremains... all my grandparents have headstones in cemeteries and they were all cremated. My mom wants to be buried in the ground, but cremated first so she won't be cold for all eternity :)
