I had an email from someone who didn't 'get' my snippet, so:

In the beginning there was nothing, an eternal void. And to this void 
God brought light, and the light was Good. 

And the light also brought form to the void, and lit up those that 
inhabited the void, for God was not alone.

And God was angered by this intrusion and sought to seperate light 
from dark, good from evil, and so he created the Sundering, 
seperating the two forever.

Or so he believed. Memnoch, a being as old as God, embraced the light 
in his ineffable curiosity, and so remained within.

God knew not His own origins, and perceived that He was but Spirit, 
and created worlds as an experiment to create spirit. And so He 
created Mankind; animals with the immaterial form of spirit they 
called Soul.

And Memnoch was jealous, and approached these creations, and sought 
to examine them for himself.

And God was angered by this influence.

Memnoch approached God, forever curious, and asked God many 
questions. And God was wroth, but this time by the other's precocity.

God named Memnoch an Accuser, which is Satan in the Hebrew form, and 
bid him to watch the experiment if he cared.

Memnoch observed the pattern of life and death, how the spirit 
formed, changed, and after death; lingered.

Of the souls that lingered, few managed to gain purity and rise up to 
join with God.

And so God created a host of Angels, also spirit, to act as 
beurocracy over the realm of souls and thereby increase throughput. 

It was for this purpose that Purgatory was formed.

The creation of Purgatory weakened the Sundering, and many of those 
that lived without breached the Sundering.

After bloody battle upon the Celestial court, God took interest and 
cast down the demons that had once lived without, and bid Memnoch to 
take charge of them, in return for which he may have such spirit as 
couldn't be made to see His light.

And for reasons of his own, Memnoch agreed to this pact. Yet in 
secret used his influence to increase his own dominion, by subverting 
the works of Angels with the actions of demons.
