Aaaaand, welcome, Blitzgal!!!
Delightfully novelistic treatment, with evocative details. The
all-night Alaskan vampire feast has definite possibilities (if a
character gets vamped during this, we probably won't know it until he
shows his fangs), and Meg's attraction to Giselle is skillfully drawn,
using the mores of the era to good effect. (Loved her chastising
herself for imagining Giselle's hands--and considering those hands to
be among Giselle's "modest areas".)
I'll be very interested to see what comes next.

PS--small nitpick, which I checked for accuracy. Water piping appears
to have been common place in the 1870s, and toilets (and septic systems)
came into vogue around 1880. (The industry grew so fast there were
three separate plumbers' unions in existence by 1885.) By 1897, the
wide majority of middle class homes had indoor plumbing, and the
electric light had also largely replaced gas.
I know it's Alaska, but OTOH, it's a boarding house, and such comforts
would be sought after.
(Oddly enough, the convenience that would be least likely to be found is
the one you have at the boarding house--the big, clawfoot tub. Early
tubs were wooden boxes with copper linings, and the freestanding ones
had only begun to appear around 1890.)
All this hardly spoils the fic, and I appreciate the use of the
ambience. But I was occasionally saying "now, wait a second" as I read
this, so I thought I'd throw my 2¢ in.
