Re: Spoiler 7:10. What did you all think of this ep?

Hey, over a week, so I don't have to do the Spoiler Space anymore...
(yeah, I know the review is overdue... :p to me)

Zorro,

I too am pleased at the thought that things might actually go somewhere,
but I've been suckered that way one too many times to believe it. (See
"Once More, With Feeling" and "Smashed" and "Conversations with Dead
People" for eps that promised to jump start the plot--and didn't.)

Yes, there was a moment where Buffy actually looked like she cared about
Willow, but that was over soon enough :p

THIS is Willow's "you'll never believe who it is" new romance?? WTF???
A girl whom she's never seen before hits on her out of the blue. Whoa,
that's an involving relationship, you bet [/sarcasm]

And emphasis on the word "girl". Aren't Slayers generally called pretty
young? Buffy was 15 (or maybe just short of 15) when she was called and
Faith wasn't much older, since she was younger than the 17-year-old
Buffy she met in S3. So how old are these chicks, anyway? Is Will
going to be sparking with someone who's possibly younger than **Dawn**?
I don't really get age-related squicks, but this seems an odd choice for
ME.

(BTW, Courtnee Draper [if she's the one playing Kennedy despite what
IMDB says] is a whole six months older than Michelle T...)

I've fanwanked that Buffy replaced the bazooka she stole in "Innocence"
and stole and replaced it again in "Him" (because she didn't want the
army to come after her), but the question of why not break out the heavy
artillery should at least come up. Which means it won't, of course.

And--my eyes!--the Spuffyness. Spike is being MIND-CONTROLLED BY THE
VERY EVIL YOU'RE FIGHTING. You don't want him with you--he could turn
on you at any second. It's amazing that they had Buffy remember and
mention that Angel and Faith exist, yet she never calls either of them
for help, doesn't alert Angel that the First Evil (whose previous plan
was specifically focused on destroying ANGEL, not Buffy) is back in
action, and doesn't do anything to protect or free Faith, even though
she mentions that the FE wants to KILL Faith. No, all Buffy can think
to do is to save the "harmless" souled vampire, whose contributions this
year (sniffed blood, punched a high school kid, helped Xander steal a
jacket) are kind of outweighed by the whole "he's insane and the Evil is
making him kill people" thing, I should think. Idiots.

And, oh yeah, "drowning" a vampire. Because it's not like these people
do a spinoff series whose whole cliffhanger last season was based on
"Angel can't drown, so he'll suffer at the bottom of the ocean forever".
Did I mention, idiots? Spike gets the least tortuous torture I've ever
seen--Dawn suffered more in the ep.

Not to mention, why is the FE trying to recruit Spike, anyway? Either
use the mind-control or dust him--they both prevent Buffy from getting
his help.

Had its moments, but I can't think I'll be raving over it.

Dan
