part 3
Buffy was at her side in less than half a second. She took the pale, almost=
lifeless hand of her best friend in her own as she knelt beside the bed. Lo=
oking for any signs of consciousness, she stared intently at Willow's face a=
nd was delighted when the redhead spoke again.
"Buffy?I?" she spoke, still only on the very edges of consciousness. Buffy =
turned to Xander and instructed him to go and get a doctor before again turn=
ing her attention to Willow.
"I'm here. What do you need, Wills?" She asked in as brave a voice as she c=
ould manage. As it happened, this came out as a barely audible whisper. She=
was about to repeat herself when Willow spoke yet again.
"Buffy I?love you." She said, now clearly straining to get the words out.B=
uffy gave the only response she could.
"I love you too, Wills." At this, Willow's eyes slowly opened. She was bomb=
arded by a host of swirling colours, yet strangely enough she could quite cl=
early make out Buffy's smiling features in front of her.
"Hey" she said, and as the swirling colours started to steady, she tried to=
sit up. She was then rewarded with a sharp pain in her side. She immediatel=
y gave up her efforts in favour of clutching her left hand to the area in pa=
in. Buffy quickly stood up and helped Willow lie back down.
"Take it easy Wills, you've gotta rest up. The wound needs time to heal." A=
s Buffy said this, she felt the rage in her reach boiling point. Whoever did=
this to Willow was going to pay. She'd make them pay for hurting her Willow=
. Willow looked at her as if she didn't really understand what she was sayin=
g. Then she remembered. She pushed the covers down, off her hospital-gown-cl=
ad body until only her lower body was covered. She then proceeded to lift sa=
id hospital gown up until she was holding it just under her breasts. There i=
t was, plain as day. An ugly knife wound. A wound inflicted by Faith.
When she realised she didn't know where she was, she took a second to look =
around the room. Hospital. She was in hospital. 'Well, that would make sense=
,' she thought 'what with this ugly great hole in my side.' She then looked=
back at Buffy whilst she covered herself up. Wonderful, sweet, beautiful Buf=
fy.
"Hey" She said again, and was this time greeted with a response from Buffy.=
"Hey yourself. How are you?" She asked. She hadn't seen the wound until now=
, but instantly knew that it was a nasty one. Years being the Slayer had tau=
ght her a few things about such injuries.
"A little woozy, and a little sore. But otherwise ok, I guess." She smiled =
a pained smile, the wound still obviously hurting.
"Who, or what did this to you?" Asked Buffy. 'OK, I love her, but that can =
wait. Retribution comes first' she thought. Willow was about to answer when=
Xander returned with the doctor. Seeing that she was indeed awake, Xander we=
nt to rush towards her, but stopped when he felt the doctors hand on his sho=
ulder.
"Easy there Mr. Harris, she still needs some time to rest." He the turned h=
is attention to Willow, who was still obviously in some pain. "Ah, Miss Rose=
nberg. I'm Dr. Stillman. It's good to see you're awake at last." He said in=
a warm friendly manner. He then went about asking her all sorts of questions=
and doing some minor checks. When he noticed that she was quite clearly tir=
ed, he excused himself. As he was leaving he turned back to face the three o=
f them.
"The Police are here, by the way. They want to talk to you, but I'll tell t=
hem you're too tired to talk." Willow merely smiled in approval. He then tur=
ned his attention to Buffy and Xander. "She still needs a lot of rest, so do=
n't occupy her for too long, or cause her any undue stress." He then added.=
"She'll be fine" before he closed the door.
"I'd better go tell Giles the good news." Announced Xander. He could tell t=
he two girls needed some 'best-friend' time and he was pretty sure that Buff=
y wouldn't be leaving the room this side of doomsday, so he decided he shoul=
d leave them too it. He tried not to be too emotional as he leaned over and=
placed a kiss on Willow's forehead, then left.
* * *
As he was walking down the corridor towards the exit he was thinking a lot.=
He was a lot more intelligent than he let on. He noticed things - things ot=
her people wouldn't see, or just refused to acknowledge. He knew that both g=
irls were in love with each other, and that neither of them knew it. He even=
knew that Willow thought she loved him, but knowing he didn't feel the same=
way, he said nothing about it. Sure he loved Willow like a best friend and=
sister, but that's as far as it went for him. 'Finally. Buffy's finally real=
ised the truth. That's why I never stood a chance. She didn't realise it, b=
ut she was too hung up on Willow to give me the time of day. It's just a pit=
y that it took such a horrible thing to make her realise it.' He thought as=
he left the building.
He soon dismissed such thoughts, and turned his attention towards the cool,=
clinical rage boiling in his blood. It would do him no good to be 'emotiona=
l guy' right now. Right now what was needed was to be objective. He knew he=
never normally acted it, but he could be surprisingly mature when he had to,=
and this was one such occasion. Besides, Buffy had more than enough emotion=
s going at the moment for the both of them. Buffy would make whoever, or wha=
tever did this pay, and he would be there to help.
Despite trying to be unemotional, he still felt indescribable rage at what =
had happened, and as he headed towards the library he started to think about=
just what he would do to the thing responsible for this. It was nothing com=
pared to what Buffy would do, he knew that, but it would still be a hell of=
a beating in its own right. He would have grinned at the thought had the ima=
ge of Willow bleeding in the alley not been ever present in his mind. In his=
head, he began to play through what he would do. 'How much do I hate you? L=
et me count the ways?'
hope you enjoyed
