Re: OT: B&EVW

Lol, poor Anne-Lise :-*
I'm 21, been actually *working* in the business for less than a year, and
even _I_ know how to set up dns and webserver to actually WORK the way you
want it.

Example #1: www.slayers.co.uk and buffy.slayers.co.uk are supposed to point
to the same page.
If the CNAME entry on the DNS doesn't work, which it obviously
doesn't, then do the following:
1 dns host entry under the slayers.co.uk domain for www pointing
to the IP of the webserver, 1 dns entry for buffy, pointing to the same
server.
On the webserver, add an entry for the page, point it to the
directory it's on (local or URL), and then add hostheader entries for both
buffy.slayers.co.uk, and www.slayers.co.uk to that entry. Voiala! You have a
working page.

Example #2: www.slayers.co.uk and buffy.slayers.co.uk are supposed to point
to different pages.
Again, 2 dns HOST entries pointing to the same webserver, one
for www and one for buffy. Enter 2 pages on the webserver. First one has the
hostheader www.slayers.co.uk, second one gets buffy.slayers.co.uk. Point
www.slayers.co.uk to the main directory of the page, and buffy.slayers.co.uk
to a subdirectory. Depending on what webserver is used, there may be 2
entries needed, or one entry if it can handle 2 hostheaders pointing to
different directories.

Now, you have to at least know a bit about this stuff, to understand what I
just said, but if the techs at BT actually knew what they were doing, they'd
have done that already.

*wonders past sleepily*

BT are morons.

You would not believe the stupidity of their technical teams!

3 months and they still haven't sorted out my domain.

Thank you, Mark, for stepping in for awhile.

*kiss*

Anne-Lise,
Back to the grind.
