Latin: Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Columbia, Columbus,
Cincinnati
Used to sound important and echo the grand Roman tradition of
government. Primarily found in the midwest and for state capitals
French: New Orleans, Detroit, Des Moines, Baton Rouge, St. Louis.
Primarily found along the Great Lakes-Mississippi river axis that was
explored by Frenchmen like Marquette and Joliet (both of whom also have
cities named for them).
