The blonde stops what she?s doing only to vamp out and turn toward her.
?You must be the slayer, I heard this is where you were. Doesn?t matter
though, you won?t be here long.? With that, she lunged at Buffy,
toppling her over.
 
>From a distance, a solitary figure watched the fight and the second
vampire flee from his Harley.

Buffy and Willow sat at their usual table at the bronze, discussing the
previous night?s patrol and enjoying the new band. They were playing a
song called ?Call Me the Breeze?
 
?They were making out right there in the middle of cemetery?? Willow
asked her friend.

?Yep, things were starting to heat up just as I got there. A few more
minutes and I would have walked into the middle of the whole show.?

?Just when you think you?ve seen it all, the hell mouth throws something
new in the mix. But it is the nineties, there?s nothing wrong if two
girls decide they want to be together. Even if they are vampires.?
 
?I?m guessing one of them vamped the other. Ok, maybe that?s stating
the obvious, but vamps tend to be pretty close to their sires. Look at
Spike and Dru. He was still all crazy about her even though she kicked
him to the curb. Anyway, I?m also guessing they had same sex tendencies
before they died. Angel told me that when a person?s vamped, a lot of
who the vampire is comes from the person they were. Apparently the
absence of a soul tends to unleash things that they might have kept
bottled up.?
 
?Wait, back in February when we had locked up my evil twin in the book
cage and I said I thought I was gay, you told me that a vamp?s
personality had NOTHING to do with who they were.?
 
?You?re right Will, I forgot.? Buffy lied. She knew exactly what she
had said. After Angel had gone evil, she had thought of going after the
shy redhead, but decided against it when she started dating Oz.
Besides, someone like Willow would never be interested in girls. Nobody
even knew Buffy was bisexual anyway, so no one suspected anything. When
Willow said what she did about her counterpart, Buffy?s hopes
momentarily spiked, but she pushed them back. She was with Angel again,
and Willow was still with Oz. So she lied to Willow, told her what she
thought she wanted, or perhaps needed to hear. Now that Angel was gone,
she decided she would do some fishing, find out how Willow really felt.
?That?s what made Angel give me the run down.? In all actuality, it was
Merrick who told her about what the lack of a soul did. It was one of
the first things he taught her. Willow seemed to buy it, but she seemed
uneasy
 
?That?s not always the case is it? I mean can?t some of it come from
the demon too?? the hacker asked. She couldn?t let Buffy know she hit
it right on the head. She was with Oz, and she loved him, but it was
nothing like what she felt for Buffy. If the slayer wanted her, she was
hers, it was as simple as that. She wanted to tell Buffy what she meant
to her, but the risk was too high. She could lose both her boyfriend
and her best friend. Though know one knew it, she could live without
Oz. It might hurt for a bit, but she?d get over it. If she lost Buffy
on the other hand, the world meant nothing to her. The last summer had
been pure hell on the redhead. Thankfully, she had Oz and Giles and
Xander and even Cordelia to help her look for her. She made it through
cause she knew in her heart Buffy would be back. If she had been gone
for much longer though the crumbling would have began..
 
?Oh yeah absolutely. It?s not all from the person. The demon adds to
the personality as well.? She could tell that Willow was uncomfortable.
?The band?s pretty good, what?s the what with them?? she asked changing
the subject to the four young men on stage who were finishing their set
?The singer?s kinda cute in a rugged mountain man kinda way?
 
?They?re new in town, from the south. I want to say New Orleans, but I?m
not sure. They?re called the Four Horsemen.?
 
?As in the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse??
 
?More than likely. Doesn?t sound good in this town does it.?
 
?Par for the course I?d say. Especially since blondie had a southern
accent too. Looks like summer?s over. I?m going to go talk to them,
see if we have anything to worry about.? With that Buffy got up and
made her way to the stage.
 
The guitarist was the first to see her coming, and pointed her out to
his friend. ?Look Wayne, our first gig and already we got fans?
 
?I do believe you?re right Clewyn.? He answered as he looked at the
small blonde approaching him. After the night before, he knew exactly
who she was. ?You want to request a song for your girlfriend over
there?? the tall singer asked as he looked in the direction of Willow.
?We don?t normally do a lot of covers, especially at this point, but
we?re always willing to make exceptions.?
 
?Girlfriend? Oh, you mean Willow. No, we?re just good friends. She?s
seeing one of the guys from Dingoes Ate My Baby. He had to go out of
town for a few days, so we?re here alone.? ?Believe me brother I?dlove
to be her girlfriend.? Buffy thought. ?I just came over to tell you
that I thought you guys were good.?
 
?Thanks, uh?.I don?t think I caught your name.?
 
?Oh sorry, I?m Buffy.?
 
?Nice to meet you Buffy, that?s Ray back there on drums, Duane on bass,
and Clewyn on lead guitar.?
 
?So, what do I call you, I mean besides the breeze. Must say, glad to
see you decided to come to California.?
 
?Funny, glad to see you pay attention. My name?s Marion, but everyone
calls me Wayne.?
 
?Why?s that??
 
?It?s my last name. My parents are big John Wayne fans. But since they
already named my older brother John, they called me Marion. And they
call my brother Duke, so I?m Wayne.?
 
?Well, it?s a pleasure to meet you Wayne.?

Spike and Harmony wandered around the docks, looking for a meal.
 
?Blondie Bear, when do we get to go to a party? I?m tired of hiding
out, eating whatever lowlife we can find here.?

move. Once the slayer?s one of us, we?ll party like it?s?..that song
turned useless last New Year?s Eve didn?t it? No matter, this town will
be ours then.? Up ahead, they noticed a pretty brunette. ?Well, well,
well, looks like we might have found ourselves a snack, eh Harm??
 
?I?ve already been a meal, I?m out looking for one myself.? She said
with a charming southern lilt as she put her game face on to show she
was one of them. ?What were you saying about the slayer??
 
?Once my little Spikey finds the gem of Amara, he?s going to kill her.?
 
?Gem of Amara? What?s that??
 
?It makes whoever wears it invincible. Once I find it, she and I are
going to have it out once and for all.?
 
?Mind if I join you? That bitch took my Amber from me. I want a piece

grabbing a piece of wood and then shoving it through Harmony?s unbeating
heart. ?I?ve got me a new girl now.? he said as he put his arm around
the brunette.

?I?ll have something cold and frothy, and preferably Canadian.? Wayne
told the waitress when she came by the table where the band sat with
Buffy and Willow.
 
?You?re from the south and you drink Canadian beer?? Buffy asked the
singer.
 
?What can I say, they know how to do it right. But I only drink
southern whiskey.?
 
?What about Scotch?? Clewyn asked his friend.
 
?Aside from that one Scotch on the rocks at the party after prom, when
have you ever seen me drink Scotch? I only drink bourbon and you know
it?
 
?So, how?d you come up with your band name? I mean, I get the reference
and all, but why?d you settle on that name?? the slayer asked, still
trying to decide if they were evil or not. So far, they seemed
perfectly harmless.
 
?We all have Harleys. Steel horses if you will. We picked it cause we
thought it sounded kinda bad ass, and as a bit of a conversation
starter. There used to be five of us. My girlfriend and I would trade
off on vocals, and we had a three guitar setup going for awhile.? Wayne
explained.
 
?Oh, what happened to her?? Willow asked, helping Buffy in the
investigation.
 
?She died. They think a stray dog wandered into the yard, and when she
went to help it, it bit her. Her father found her a few hours later.?
It wasn?t a total lie, that?s what everyone thought. But Wayne knew the
truth. ?Would you like to see a picture of her?? he asked, knowing full
well that Buffy would recognize her from the night before.
 
?Sure? both girls answered. He got it out of his wallet and handed it
first to Willow, who then handed it to Buffy when she was done. As he
expected, Buffy recognized her.
 
?My god Will, this is the one that got away.?
