Resolution: I think I get it (Finale Spoilers)

I think I might have it. I was watching Chosen again just now... and I wasreading about people being upset that there was no real resolution to the whole First-Evil thing. I *think* I just might have it.

When Giles and Anya went and talked to the Beljoxa's Eye thing. The Eye said that the reason why the First was able to attack now, of all times, was because of the imbalance in the Slayer line. This imbalance was caused by "the Slayer", it said: basically meaning Buffy and Faith coexisting. This made the First able to make its move, build its army, and attempt to end the line. The protections on the line were disrupted.

However!!!!

When Willow did her spell, she changed the fundamental nature of the Slayerline and the magicks surrounding that line. What she did was take the imbalance and erase it. This reinstated the protections on the line, making the First unable to attack the line again.

After that was done, all that had to happen was for the already-assembled army to be defeated. That's why the First told Buffy (as she lay with her "mortal wound" on the cave floor) that "You came pretty close to smacking medown." When the army was destroyed, there was nothing else the First could do. Basically, it's back to being an incorporeal irritation.

Does that make sense? I hope so....
