Re: Something I've noticed.

I'm not so sure about all that. Personally, I've written both heterosexual
and lesbian sex scenes even though I've never experienced heterosexual sex
(which is probably more than y'all wanted to know <g>) and I've been told
that the het scenes I've written are pretty damn good. If anyone wants to
see them, they're up at pub78.ezboard.com/fplanckittiensfrm2 under the
heading "Buffy Pairings PWP Series". I even wrote a threesome and I've
certainly never done that.

I don't think you necessarily have to have physically experienced a thing
before you can write about it. You do, however, need to know not only the
proper mechanics of a thing but also how it's done outside of porn flicks...
and you have to write it with a little care and precision. I have noticed -
and this is all my humble opinion - that people who are less-than-adequate
writers tend to write less-than-adequate sex scenes. Nothing turns me off a
fic faster than someone who knows they're not the best at grammar or
spelling but posts anyway with the disclaimer "I know my ___ isn't perfect
so excuse the mistakes." People, that's what Beta Readers are for!
*Especially* for people who are not native speakers of English. You could
have the best plot line in the world, but people, I wouldn't read something
that was written by Joss himself if I had to dig through spelling,
punctuation and grammar errors to get to the meat of the matter.

Pet peeve (one of many): TAUNT means "to tease or make fun of someone."
TAUGHT is the past tense of teach. TAUT is the word you want to use when
you describe Buffy's lovely flat stomach or Willow's shapely backside.
TAUT. Not taunt ot taught. *shudder* This drives me _insane_.

So I guess my point is that you don't necessarily have to have experienced
it to write it, but you should at least do some research into how it's done
when it's done properly. This means reading fic by writers who a lot of
people accept as being good writers. Fanfic award winners will usually be
fairly good.

I thought a professional demon chaser like yourself would have figured it
out by now. I'm the Slayer.
(Riley just looks at her) Slay-er? - Chosen One.
(Riley is still lost) She who hangs out a lot in cemeteries?
You're kidding. Ask around. Look it up: Slayer, comma, the.
