I truely believe he's telling the truth about willow being his favorite. 
After all, despite the fact that some of us don't like the changes he made 
in willows life, she is the only character who TRUELY grew and changed in 
the show. I think the fact that he spent so much time cultivating her 
character (Which only went to shit when he left during season sux) is very 
telling about how much he cared for both the character and actress.
