RE: OT: Threesomes

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, was the word of the day...
No really, my thoughts on this are that the practical explosive response to
a simple comment being made regarding a question to a challenge only shows
one thing. That people think about the whole threesome idea. Good or bad,
positive or negative doesn't really matter. It seems to interest people,
makes them give their opinion. And I find that rather funny because this
whole discussion, excuse my bluntness, is totally useless.
This is a list featuring adult material for a homosexual, non-canon (though
some would wish) couple. I believe people around here should KNOW that
everyone has his or her own opinion, own preferences etc. But we are
writing/talking about something here that still gets a lot of prejudices,
regardless of how liberal the world seems to be. Bear stated it nicely
enough for some people polygaromy is just as valid a lifestyle as an open
relationship, a homosexual or a mixed one is. If you want people to accept
your favoring of a girl/girl pairing and you go about and critize someone
who likes girl/girl/girl (or whatever else) pairings this is plain and
simple hypocritical.
Don't get me wrong, no one critized anyone here and that is the whole point.
It's all about opinions, personal opinion and personal tastes. You don't
like it, don't read it. And that was about the response almost everyone
gave. Almost everyone, almost everytime.
It is not like I don't want to hear about peoples tastes and opinions but
reading through all those posts I got the feeling of being on one of these
boards that comment on news like how bad this tv channel is for constantly
screwing up the program (our more or less local Anime channel tends to get
the reaction). I am either annoyed or amused by those because everyone knows
it anyway, you can't change it as mucxh as you can't change people's
opinions... And that is okay, because if everyone had the same opinion, the
world would be a rather boring place.
The only thing all this has led to was for two authors actually suggestions
to stop posting their triad-fics. And that I think should get you thinking.

I am sorry if that sounds a little harsh, actually I am just amused. I don't
want to offend anyone but I really think this whole discussion was kind of
pointless. Especially the way it began. I mean if I give out a challenge for
a specific pairing and say I don't want any other intruding, then that is
it. It is my challenge, my idea, I wanted to see it fulfilled. If I don't
want a three- or moresome... Fine! That's it! Period.

I find it quite amusing too that in the middle of this whole discussion
someone posted a threesome-potential fic... I am going to take a look at
that now anyway.

Oh, and for the thing about starting a threesome. There is only so much ways
you really can go about it. Since I am a Wuffara-fan let's take this for
now. There can only be Willow/Tara, Buffy/Willow or Buffy/Tara. All has been
done as several people pointed out. The true masterpiece though would be
mending a threesome between them without any relationship previously.
However, there always will be bindings.
Tara came into the show as Willow's girlfriend. Well okay, she came in as
her witch-buddy-developing-love interest but... You get my point. There will
always be some sort of romance between them if you wish to include Tara.
Pretending the opposite would be ignorance of facts or AU (which is not the
same, because the first would be a bad writing style).
Buffy/Tara have their moments in S6 I suppose. The RoundRobin showed that
there is potential and I think it is sad that threesomes between them and
Willow are not explored about this angle more. As far as I know that is the
only one starting as a Buffy/Tara sort of (since Willow was still in the
backs of their minds/hearts all the time).
Then there is Buffy/Willow and I think I really don't have to explain that
one. It has been explored already, not only in Shehulk's fics but also in
the Trinity series which - when I remember correctly - also started as a
B/W.
As I said the true masterpiece would be bring every party together at the
same time but I see that is very hard to do. For one thing I believe without
a true binding beforehand wouldn't the characters feel even more hesitant
and nervous about it? Wouldn't they shy away faster than if they already had
someone? The closeset anyone ever got to a harmonic beginning of a triad
without any true relationship present was Hunter. The Red Moon Series starts
directly at that one point where the lines were still blurry. Willow was
falling in love with Tara and was already in love with Buffy. Buffy was in
love with Willow. And Tara, well... That's why I said almost. She couldn't
have any emotional bondings with Buffy since they barely met, right? So
saying that she doesn't contribute isn't fair either. People cannot fall in
love with each other before they even met (and now don't start with internet
romances). But in Hunter's story it still worked.

Now, see what you did? I went rambling about it for about half an hour at
least...
That's my two cents... more like twenty, okay... to that discussion. I like
three-/moresomes IF they are well-written. I have a high respect for authors
who can pull them off believable because I made personal experiences with at
least one finished story (not BtVS) so far and I know it is a challenge. If
you don't like it out of personal taste, alright with me. I think we can all
agree to that. And that was the whole point.
Amen.

Going to check out that fic now.

Ja ne, yours

Matthias
