Of course. For several reasons beyond the possible B/W smoochies
aspects.
1) It's Buffy's show, after all. I don't want her hogging all the
glory, but to have her finishing the season ineffectually fighting dirt
monsters (she doesn't win, even with Wonder!Dawn fighting beside her)
makes her look too diminished. Especially bad after a season where
Buffy was weak and pathetic and really needed to get her groove back in
the finale.
2) The show had been half-Buffy plot, half-Willow plot for much of the
year. Dramatically, the two stories needed to combine for the climax.
3) Much of Buffy's trauma is because of the resurrection, which ME went
to pains to make All Willow's Fault. At a time like this, Willow needed
Buffy's love and forgiveness more than she needed a reminder of Xander's
unconditional love, IMO. And since Buffy needed to purge herself of the
negativity, it would have healed her, too.
4) The schism of "Two to Go" (Willow's threats to Dawn, the B/W fight)
needed fixing, too, and IMO never really got fixed in SFlub7.
5) Anything to avoid the "Summers Dawn" [? the recently returned
blinviz--and btw, welcome back :) ] flowerpiphany we got instead.
Actually, I would have preferred for everyone to be there, to take away
the scattered and broken group dynamic (which, I believe, Fury thought
his ep was healing--little did he know the drek yet to come). I think
it's bizarre that Xander gives his big speech about "family" and no one
else is there.
And hey, it's not like B/W smoochies would have been a **bad** thing,
either :)
