SUBTERFUGE (34/?)
Willow and Buffy stayed in bed for another fifteen minutes before finally deciding to go ahead and get up. They showered together, touching and kissing until the water became cold. Once they were both dressed, they went downstairs. Willow could hear Dawn in the kitchen, glancing at Buffy and smiling, "I think she's cooking."
"I don't smell anything burning," Buffy whispered back after sniffing the air.
"The burning smell is usually when you cook, honey," Willow said with a laugh as she moved away before Buffy could hit her.
"I don't burn every thing I cook," Buffy grumbled as they entered the living room.
"You're cute when you pout," Willow declared with a smile as she moved closer to brush her lips against Buffy's for a quick kiss.
"I'm not pouting," Buffy denied before a smile crossed her face, "unless, of course, you feel inclined to kiss me again. Then, well, I'll do my best to pout as often as possible."
"You're nuts," Willow laughed as she walked into the kitchen, greeting Dawn, "Good morning, sunshine!"
"You guys are already out of bed?" Dawn looked around the kitchen at the breakfast that was only half fixed before looking back at her sister and Willow. She groaned, "It's not ready yet. I wanted to surprise you both with breakfast."
"You have surprised us, Dawny," Willow said with an affectionate smile at the teen. "I'm starving and breakfast sounds wonderful."
"It smells great," Buffy said as she looked at what her sister was cooking. With a smile, she pointed at the stove and told Willow, "Look, baby. She makes them like Mom used to. They really are supposed to be yellow. Dawn, how did you do that? Can you teach me?"
"She's kidding, right?" Dawn asked Willow, knowing that Buffy wasn't much of a cook but figuring that her sister was just teasing.
"Afraid not," Willow smiled, "She made me breakfast in bed recently and I think they were supposed to be eggs and that they were supposed to be scrambled, but she ended up with a lumpy mess."
"They were awful," Buffy agreed, smiling as she remembered that Willow had tried to eat them anyway, not wanting to hurt her feelings by admitting how bad the eggs really were. She caught her lover's eye and said, "It meant a lot, that you still tried to eat them. I was so glad you didn't sick or anything."
"Well, I had to try. I mean, you made them for me and it was really very sweet," Willow said.
"I love you," Buffy said before kissing the redhead.
"This is just so great!" Dawn smiled before turning to move the eggs from the burner.
"Sorry about that, Dawn," Buffy said, having forgotten for a second that they had an audience. How was she supposed to act all parental when all she really wanted to do was kiss Willow?
"Don't be sorry," Dawn rolled her eyes, "If it's not obvious, I'm so happy that you guys are together-together that I could do cartwheels! It's the best thing that has happened to us in so long, I just can't stop smiling."
"Me either," Buffy shared a smile with her sister before moving out a bar stool for Willow to sit on. She sat beside the redhead, resting her chin on Willow's shoulder as she watched Dawn finish cooking breakfast.
"I could tell!" Dawn teased, winking at Willow as the redhead laughed softly.
"Do you need any help, Dawn? I can set the table or make toast," Willow offered, pleased that Dawn had handled the change in her and Buffy's relationship so well. She actually wasn't surprised, since she and Dawn were very close and the teen had always been extremely accepting of her relationship with Tara.
"Thanks, but I can take care of it. You two just sit there and smile and be all loving and couply," Dawn instructed. She put some bread in the toaster and then went to the cabinet to get paper plates. She loved to cook, having spent many an hour in the kitchen watching and helping her Mother, but she hated cleaning up so paper plates were a must for her. She looked over and saw Buffy watching Willow, a smile on her sister's face that she'd never seen before. They looked so happy, so in love, so perfect together. She hadn't been lying earlier when she said she hadn't been able to stop smiling since she'd found out they'd finally realized they were meant for each other. Finally, something good had happened to them. She couldn't wait to talk to Xander and Anya and share the great news.
