(Okay, that was just a random song lyric and has nothing to do with the
rest of this post)

Well, yeah, IM and all that (Andrew did make one reference to
"conference calls"), but it's sad that after all they've been through
not one of them stayed near any other one.  The "Core Four" are now on
four different continents (with, ironically, Giles as the only American
resident).  Feh.

Mind you, I take all this with several grains of salt.  The destruction
of Sunnydale in Worst.Finale.EVER.  was so, IMO, directly antithetical
to the entire spirit of the show (what was Buffy fighting and possibly
dying for in the dark if not the right of people to live their lives, to
have the normalcy that Buffy herself would be denied?) that I only
consider the idea that Buffy's going around the world, turning thousands
more into refugees by dropping *their* cities into sinkholes, to be a
bad hallucination dreamt up by people who've read too much Spuffy fic.
As with almost everything post-WB, it's only "canon" if I feel like
using it in a fic.  (But then, I'm kind of a nut <g>)

Still, I see Patrick's point.  The idea that Buffy doesn't hang with any
of the people she's bonded at the soul with (literalllysee
"Primeval") smacks of that Season 7 "the Slayer is always alone" retcon,
foist upon us in stark indifference to the fact that the first three
seasons were all about showing us that Buffy is stronger than other
Slayers (stifled, uncreative Kendra;  rootless and eventually psychotic
Faith) precisely **because** she isn't alone.  Grr.

But whatever.  After all this junk the last few years, I can fanwank
anything.

Herewith the True Scoop: 

Xander went to Africa because he's investigating that so-called "soul"
that Spike got at Burbank-on-the-Congo.  (Sure, he doesn't know Spike's
alive, but after Angel showed up with his "Get out of Hell Free" card in
Season 3, Xander's taking no chances.)  Either that, or he hooked back
up with the unmentioned Faith, and she's on a "do the wild thing amongst
the wild things" kick and they're scaring the animals at nature
preserves across Africa. ;)

Buffy, of course, is staying thousands of miles away from Willow and
Kennedy precisely because she can't bear to see Her Willow with anyone
else any more.  She cries quietly at nights, so as not to wake Dawn (who
is presumably learning the tricks of the trade from Rome's notoriously
skilled pickpockets).

Willow actually keeps dragging Kennedy over from Sao Paolo to Rio
because she's trying to lose her in all the confusion of the tourists.
Poor girl doesn't have the heart to break up with I'm-so-Special K
directly.  Unfortunately, it hasn't worked yet, and Kennedy keeps
finding her (damn Slayer senses!), but Will has high hopes for the
upcoming Carnivale&

Giles actually doesn't give a fig about the Cleveland Hellmouth.  He's
just there so he can mount a campaign to get the Bay City Rollers into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He takes out his frustration by
periodically beating Andrew thoroughly, then covers it by telling Andrew
he's "training" him.  Sad, really. :p

Simple, when you think about it.
