>I'm somewhat disheartened to see such
unanimous backing for what was
pretty clearly an immense violation of the moral code of the Buffyverse. (Indeed, one which I was appalled at, because it contradicted previous characterization of Willow as someone who doesn't do evil things out of petty revenge motives?see "Consequences", or "Wild at Heart".) *-*-*-*-*-*-*
There's a big difference between petty revenge (getting back at Oz) and
blood vengeance. Not that I'm a big fan of vengeance generally (but as a
human I know what it's like to feel the need for it). My instinctive reaction
would be to grab Warren and to spend a few hours of me, him, and a blow
torch.

>Vengeance killing is wrong?it's not justice, it's murder for one's own emotional satisfaction. I think Buffy explained the emotional reasons why it was off-kilter quite neatly in "Villains", and as a practical matter, the Scoobs had an iron-clad case against Warren (who has no superpowers or magical skills to escape jail), what with the forensics on the bullets that Willow was waving around and not one but two eye-witnesses in Buffy and Xander. There is absolutely no justification, IMO, for Willow torturing and slaughtering a defenceless, captive, most-likely-bound-for-Death Row human simply because it made her feel better. *-*-*-*-*-*
As a witness to the extremes of human
nature/behaviour (both good and bad), I can honestly say that every single human
being on the planet is capable of doing what Willow did (the torture and the
killing, not the magic) and worse. It's just a matter of finding the right
trigger or circumstances for that particular person. For Willow it was Warren
killing Tara.
I'm not sure of American law but would
Warren get the death penalty? Murder does not automatically get you the
death penalty (even in Texas).
Willow was completely justified in hunting
down Warren and she was also justified in killing Warren in self defence when he
attacked her with the axe and stuff. But once she had captured and subdued
him, Willow had no right to kill Warren. Did Warren deserve to die? Yes, but at
the hands of the legal system.
But I wouldn't mind if Buffy gave Warren a full Slayer power kick in the
balls a couple of times before they drop him off to the cops. Just
to ensure he can't escape of course.
