Funny, it worked for me.

Nice fic, as per your usual standards.  Was wondering who was narrating the
story; at first I thought either Faith or Spike for some reason, except that
the narrator didn't recognize Buffy at first, until he/she heard the name.
Or was this an AU piece?  Anyway, loved the atmospheric hard-boiled style.
I could hear the wailing saxophone in the background as I read it.
