Those three main plot issues were never meant to be handled.

Marty Noxon, Jane Epson, and at least three other writers said in interview
after interview, (before UPN
offered M.E. a boat load of money),  that the First Evil was a one time shot
and Angel's problem.  That Buffy dying a hero was the way Slayers always
ended up and that they had set that up from the beginning of show.  What was
the last supposed plot thread?  Oh, the Hellmouth that Whedon just thought
up
for an excuse to have the bad guys come to Sunnydale?  That too was never
supposed to be closed.

See this is what frustrates me to no end is that Joss Whedon will say
anything to make himself look good.  This week it was all about Spike's
redemption, last
week it was about how he dealt with running a company, next week it will
about ....  What?  He subscribes to the thought that if you throw enough
crap at something then eventually it will stick.  So when anyone uses Joss'
words of the week to defend or explore any major plot point or character
that person loses me.

The same is true by trying to relate Angel The Series to prove something in
BtVS.  The entire base of the argument is flawed.  It is flawed simply
because according to Greenwald, in the earlier interviews, Angel and Buffy
were never supposed to be interrelated after the first year.  That's why in
the pilot the Vamps even looked different. Angel has always moved to a
slightly different set of rules.

Lastly, all the writers said that Joss had mapped out the first five years
of Buffy well in advanced.  That the show was meant to end there.  That
Buffy, like all Slayers were supposed to die a hero.
