Discliamers in Part Nine
a

Willow looked at the dazed nurse as Cordelia wrapped the
last of the medical tape around the portly woman?s midsection. They had already tied her hands together
and gagged her. Though
Willow was feeling rather guilty about the gagging part of
the plan and, when she thought about it, she wasn?t too pleased with the nearly
frightening the evil nurse to death part of the plan, either.
The first part of Cordelia?s plan was simple. Grab the evil nurse Swinson, even though
the nurse was probably not all that evil, just caught up in circumstances beyond
her control. And while
Willow hated frightening her so badly, there had just been
no other way. The woman?s eyes had
gone as round as saucers when Willow had closed the door, then Cordelia and
Xander appeared out of nowhere and as soon as they touched the woman, she had
fainted dead away. At first the
Scoobies were concerned that they had given the older woman a heart attack but
when they checked her pulse and breathing everything was fine.
With the first part of Cordelia?s plan completed
Xander was working on the second part using Cordelia?s cell phone. ?Yep, I know it sounds weird Oz but
Cordy saw this at some clothing store--"
?Please! The bait and switch is the American way to
sell off-brands! All the major
Boutiques do it,? the beauty queen rolled her eyes at her clueless
boyfriend.
Willow thought that their interaction was cute.
?--As I was saying Oz,? Xander continued after
sticking his tongue out at Cordelia and then turning toward the window. ?We want you to zoom through the parking
lot, stop, then get out of there.
After a few blocks just park the van and get someplace safe.? Willow watched as Xander kept running his hand through his
hair. It was the only sign that he
was nervous. ?I know, Cordy calls
it the bait and switch ? yeah, that?s right. We make the Council believe that we?ve
taken Buffy and run, while we just move her to one of the empty rooms on this
wing.?
Xander gave the thumbs up so
Willow started working on her end of the plan. Which was trying to figure out how to
turn off all the monitors keeping track of Buffy?s condition. She had seen it in a movie once, the bad
guy had turned off the monitors before trying to kill a woman. Of course Clint Eastwood had rescued the
woman before the bad guy could kill
her. Still, turning off the
monitors meant, that when they moved Buffy they wouldn?t blare a warning, until
the Scoobys wanted them to.
?Oz is a go,? Willow heard Xander say as she concentrated on the
equipment. She thought she
had it all figured out, it wasn?t rocket science after all?well, it was rocket
science because all the medical monitoring equipment had come out of the space
program?but turning it off wasn?t rocket science. The simple switches had . . .
?Willow! We don?t have all day,? the beauty queen hissed at
her.
Willow looked up at Xander and Cordelia as they stood on
the other side of the bed. Xander
stared down at Buffy?s emaciated form with tears pooling in his
eyes.
?Right, got ya,? she turned off the monitors and then
silently held her breath for the few seconds it took to see if it worked. When the equipment remained silent and
an army didn?t break down the door to the room she slowly released
it.
?Ok,? she nodded to the others. Willow carefully removed the IV line that was stuck in
Buffy?s arm. There was no telling
what the Council was using to keep Buffy unconscious, so they had decided it was
better to be safe than sorry. The
other tubes connected to parts of the Slayer?s body were left alone.
When Willow had finished both Cordelia and Xander stepped up to
the bed and tenderly lifted the tiny girl into his arms. When he felt how small she was he
couldn?t stop the tears from sliding down his face. ?We?re here Buffy . . . ?
Willow saw him swallow as his words choked off.
When Xander picked up the Slayer, the magical energy from his shield
reformed to include Buffy. That
meant they had an extra charm and another idea formed in her mind.
Willow quickly tied all the bed sheets and blankets
together. Then she took a deep
breath and glanced at the others to make sure they were in position, Xander
behind the bed next to the wall, Cordelia next to him holding Buffy?s various
tubes.
Willow took out the extra charm and took her Wiccan energy
out of it. She left the Council?s
magic in the charm, though, hoping that it would work.
Willow waited until she saw Oz?s van turn into the hospital
parking lot and then she threw open the window. She tossed the bed sheet rope out the
window along with the extra charm.
She barely had time to move away from the window
before the Council guards rushed into the tiny room. The two from the door were closely
followed by three others, crowding the Slayerettes and Buffy into a tiny
corner.
Willow could hear the squeal of tires through the open
window.
One of the guards lifted a radio, ?The Slayer has
escaped, repeat the Slayer has escaped.?
?We have the van spotted and are giving chase, all
squads assemble at location B.?
At the command the Council soldiers dashed out of the small room leaving
a confused police officer standing out in the hall staring at the Evil Nurse
Swinson tied to the chair.
When the police officer came into the room to untie
nurse Swinson, the Scoobies were able to slip out. They went down the hall and into another
room.
?Well, as rescues go that certainly won't win any
medals,? Cordelia announced
following Xander over to the bed.
Willow turned back to the door. She placed her hands on it and quickly
chanted ?don?t look here, pass me by? three times hoping the small spell would
help. Or at least give them enough
time for Buffy to wake up.
?But, at least the Buffster will have a chance,? Xander said as he gently placed the girl
on the bed.
