Heh.  Cynical minds think alike.

Yes, absolutely, the revolving door o' death IMO made the series feel
cheap and comic-booky.  (And ran counter to the stated tone of S6-7, I
felt.)  When Joss talks about "on my show, if the character dies, you
work more" it may amuse him to be glib about giving Mercedes McNab more
work, post-vamping, but I believe it tarnishes the emotional investment
he asks us to feel.  (A well he went to, to an IMO ridiculous extreme,
over and over again in seasons 5-7, and "Angel" S5.  Jenny's death was a
tragedy, and great TV.  The "Death-of-the-Week" of the last few years
felt lame as all get-out to me).

All that said, Angel never actually died.  (Well, *Liam* died when Darla
bit him, but you know what I mean&)  Buffy talked a lot about
"killing" him, both when she sent the soul out of the body and when she
sent the body (with newly-returned soul) to hell, but he never
discorporated or anything.  It wasn't pleasant, but he wasn't any deader
than, say, Catherine Madison.
