and if we play the "if they would've taken it farther" card, then
ANYTHING works:

"hey, if Buffy's aim would've been a little off, then that stake
would've ended up somewhere else and she and Annonymous Female Vampire
#1 could've developed a love and hot and sweaty sex relationship based
on that"

my point was that I've never seen the chemistry between Buffy and
Giles to be anything than mentor/student. it just doesn't compute. 

but to modify: "those two could SO fall in love with each other". 

I've seen chemistry like that between B/W, B/F, B/T, W/X, W/G (note
that one) etc. some pairings my brain just doesn't react that way
with, B/G being one.
