Re: when did it all begin?

Ah, I forgot the "Randy Giles" characterization of Spike. (There was a
nice critique on TWoP that to make Spuffy more appealing, they made
Spike into a conglomerate of W/X/G's characteristics. I'll quote if I
had time.)
And yeah, I forgot Woodie. My bad.
Oh, so you were just quoting the "sister" argument, not making it?
Gotcha. And yes, I think that's just an excuse by canon-'shippers to
close off other possibilities.
Actually, I find W/T to be way too close to Willow's relationship with
her actual mother for me to be comfortable with it.
Actually, Willow's mom was never that loving or supportive, or payed
much attention, at all.
(I also find Oz
pretty paternalistic, which is why Kennedy is my favorite canon
Willow-ship of the three; it's evenhanded, not "Bad Willow, how dare
you disagree with Perfect!Oz/St. Tara" all the time, IMO.)
Oh, I cannot disagree with you, more. Oz and Tara weren't perfect.
They were just concerned about Willow's attitude towards the magic,
as were Buffy, Giles, and Xander. As it turned out, they had good
reason to be concerned. All those expressions of concern were
foreshadowing.
Kennedy, well, is either Buffy-Lite, or a watered down Cordy, without
the good parts of either. Oz and Tara each brought something to the
Scooby mix, while Kennedy just took away from it, IMO. She didn't
want to be part of the group, but to try to drive a wedge into it. At
least Spike was a soulless demon when he tried the same thing in
Season 6.
And, if what Willow really wanted was a brat, hey, Dawn was already
living there, and was much cuter :)
So, was K a Buffy substitute, a Cordy substitute, or a Dawn
substitute? :)
Personally,
I find W/T a *lot* squickier than B/G, although the ultimate in that
area may be "Teach me how to be a real human, Xander, and then we can
have lots of orgasms!" Yeah, Nick isn't as old as Tony and the 'ship
was played for comedy so many people didn't mind the subtext, but I
found Anya to be way more dependent and childlike around Xander than
Buffy ever was around Giles. (One could even argue that "Selfless"
implicitly recognizes this. OTOH, it could also be argued that Anya
isn't really that childish, it's just her excuse for not making an
effort, as Willow says in "Triangle".)
And I agreed with Willow, there.
