Never saw any X/F comparisons, aside from the "hungry and horny"
aspects that are part of every Slayer.  But, yeah, it was very much
Season 3 B/F, a sexy dark mirror trying to seduce Buffy into giving in
to the darker aspects of the Slayer.  Except for the soul issue, you
could have done pretty well that entire S6 storyline with Faith.

Hmm, the ladies seem to disagree where the hotness comparisons are
concerned.  But, B/A has the advantage of being THE ship that drove
the show for it's first three seasons.  

What I think Dan was referring to (And he can correct me if I'm wrong)
was the position that Buffy and Spike couldn't reconcile in a romantic
sense because of what happened.  I liked their S7 relationship, since
it wasn't sexual, but still a tighter, more loving, bond than the
other three couples at the time, being contrasted with the pure lust
based W/K, X/A, and F/R.  Of course, at the same time, we were
supposed to buy Kennedy and Robin as Willow's and Faith's respective
great loves, even though the writers (I'd guess this was Petrie at
work) subverted the entire basis of the relationships.  But then, Jane
co-wrote that one with Petrie, and she loved Willow, so she may not
have approved of Kennedy as her long term lifetime love that Joss was
trying to push on everyone  :)  

Only problem is, as I've said, the Spuffy responds that the series
sent mixed messages.  The series had Buffy willing to get back
together with Angel, despite Angelus, and Tara going back to the woman
who not only violated her horribly, but did it without her knowledge.
  I have to admit that the Spuffy crowd has a good point, there.

Try some of Mad Hamlet's stuff, especially Dianna Wears Red.  Being
involved with a primal supernatural preditor, the perfect killing
machine, has it's own unique set of baggage.
