As I've said before, it's not that people have lost interest in
Buffyfic.  It's still going strong.  It's just that pairing the core
four with each other has dropped off, considerably.  While it's to be
expected that B/A and B/S are dominant, B/F is still going strong, so
strong it's become the main BtVS femmeslash ship.

It's also worth noting that the last 2 or 3 years have given us a lot
of new writers, so they're going to have their own perspective, and
most won't have been exposed to B/W, given this ship's tendency to
stick to these lists.  So, when one is giving Buffy or Willow a love
interest, they tend to look elsewhere.  This is especially true with
crossover fic, where they've got an entire cast to choose from.  

Speaking of which, one thing I've noticed in a Potter crossover series
I've quite liked is the writer maintaining Willow/Kennedy seemingly
out of a sense of obligation, because the story plays up how
especially close Buffy and Willow are, with Kennedy just sort of being
there, occasionally.
