I have to agree with both sides of the debate on this, I do think
that Tara
is an interesting character, i loved her in the show and i have
read alot of
Fanfic based on the W/T ship. But what i have noticed of late is
that the
stories are either very squishyly romantic (which are lovely in
there part, but
in my opinion make for a bland story)

Yeah, that's what I meant. W/T stories tend to be bland, as there's
only so much cotton candy one can eat.
Change her character somewhat (Making her evil or getting her possessed seems to be a favorite)

I read one where they made her a dominatrix.
or add another character to the ship (W/T/B, W/T/X, and i once skipped through a
W/T/Giles...i
may be scarred for life)
So as loved by many as she is, Tara is Willow's girl, she does not
make a
good stand alone character.

Yeah, she works mainly in how she relates to other characters, and the
nice touches Amber brought to what was really an underdeveloped
character. Amber fleshed Tara out.

Faith on the other hand is a force of nature, She can and does stand alone, where Tara is light she is dark and can
bring more
angst and substance to a story (meat for the beast!)

The strange thing is both characters had the same roots: They were
designed to be mirrors to their respective counterparts, and at the
same time amplified traits of their respective counterparts. Faith
was everything Buffy kept under control about herself ('til Seasons 5
and 6, at any rate). Notice how, in Season 3, Buffy dressed more
conservatively than she did in the first two seasons, was more self
controlled, as if all these aspects were being poured into her mirror.
She eventually got those aspects back after the dream conversaion in
GD2. Similarly, notice when Willow became outgoing, ultra confidant,
and started dressing less dowdy? It was when Tara took on Willow's
old shy, wallflowerish, qualities. Unfortunately for everybody, Tara
also took Willow's empathy and unconditional love, to the point Buffy
had to go to Tara for what Willow used to provide for her. When she
lost Tara for the last time, she lost all those parts of herself she'd
poured into Tara. She didn't get them back until Chosen.
