Re: Re: Mad Hamlet's post

I agree with everyone so far. Which might not make alot of sense, but reading more than one pairing can actually deepen the ability to write. Seeing a softer Faith or a harder Willow, or a less willful Buffy.

The change in emotions between the pairings is what makes them all better.

Hmmm... not that I've ever done more with Tara in a fic than have
Willow staring at her tombstone...

I think there is plenty of angst and gloom centered around her to
provide story conflict/substance. The image of her as "sweetness and
light" really happened after she died. She might have been the "moral
compass" of Season 6 [which is where a lot of that comes from I think]
but she had her own flaws just like the other characters.

It's just that people who WANT something sappy/romantic can latch onto
the W/T thing. People looking for two powerful/conflicted women trying
to work out how to have a relationship when their personalities are so
different can look to B/F (with plenty of angst to go with).

Where does that leave B/W ?

Even though I'll read almost anything B/W, when writing them I MUCH
prefer a post Season 5 Buffy and a Post Season 6 Willow. The broken
people trying to put themselves back together. There is so much more
emotion to tap into. And if they can help each other along the way...
so much the better.

Well, considering the reason Kennedy is so unpopular, where even
non-B/W shippers see her as The Bitch That Came Between Buffy and
Willow, this would seem an opportune time for Wiffy. That reaction
shows just how important the relationship between Buffy and Willow is,
even to people who have never considered shipping them. It's a very
complex relationship, where the whole is stronger than the sum of it's
parts. There's a lot to explore, there. You can explore it on a
personal level, either through their friendship or as a romance. You
can even get big and epic with it. What's all that monkeying around
with each other's energy on a cosmic scale (Primeval, Bargaining, and
Chosen) done to them?
