That's the problem with looking for Wiffy inspiration in anything from
Hush, onward.  From then on, Willow was All About Tara, and Buffy was
placed into the slot of Second Best Friend After Xander (Hence, why it
had to be Xander, specifically, to pull Willow from the edge in Grave.
It had to be the one living person she loved most), and their
relationship became high school chums that grew apart.
