So, I've been pondering the above question, and the only thing that I can
see, is that Buffy, because of the fact that she is strong, confident, and
dependent (before that whole dependent thing she developed with Spike),
Buffy was put into the traditional male (father) role of the relationship,
which put Willow in the female (mother) role.

Which is odd, seeing that in the Willow/Tara relationship, Willow is placed
in the male (father) role*, with Tara filling the female (mother) role*.
Hell, in the Buffy/Willow/Tara relationship, it seems that Buffy AND Willow
are placed in the male (father) role*, with Tara in the female (mother)
role*.

*Please note that I'm using the male (father) role to describe the provider
role, with the female (mother) role describing the caregiver role.

So, yeah, those are my disjointed thoughts....
