Re: Re: "Teacher's Pet" Discussion
The same fucked up shit that makes straight guys (and gay girls) get
all hot over Faith or Vamp Willow? Or Darla in the schoolgirl
outfit?
Or Buffy in the Red Leather Pants of Moral Ambiguity in Graduation
Day?
<rant>
Speaking as a straight guy, the attraction to Faith/Vamp Willow is
rooted in their confidence, the way they carry themselves. It appears
to be a natural reaction that as a species we see a confident person
as an attractive person. As I said, it boils down to how a person
carries themselves. A confident person is much more likely to 'dress
to impress' by showing off what they see as their best features. Case
in point: Vamp Willow's cleavage. A not so confident person will hide
what they see as their worst features. Case in point: Willow and all
the frumpy clothes early on.
It's their alphaness. An alpha male is a good provider, an alpha female is
a good protector for the young. A strong mate will produce strong
offspring. Humans, like every other species on the planet high enough up
the food chain to have a spine, are programmed by nature to seek out the
strongest, most dominant mate they can hook. Strength and dominance mean
good genes.
Now being humans, and not ruled by animal instincts, we tend to toss aside
the need to find the strongest possible mate, and instead go for one we can
actually get along with. For many of us, the instinct quickly fades in the
presence of the intellect. But the instinct is still there. We still take
that first look.
And just to bring this thread back to the topic of the episode in the
subject line, that's how Ms. French was able to attract human males so
easily. The woman screamed alpha, and her targets, teenaged boys, were in
that adolescent hormonal stage where instinct will trump intellect pretty
much every time.
