To put my two cents in this conversation, Sunnydale
is two hours from LA. It is based loosely on Santa Barbara. As much
as I hate Angel during the episode "I will remember you" Buffy is there to visit
her father - in LA.
In Nightmares, Buffy's father is driving up from LA
to pick her up for the weekend.
In Helpless Buffy is supposed to go to the ice show
with her Dad in LA.
And although Joss has changed his mind about
everything else, he has continued to say that Sunnydale is in
So-Cal.
