Savage, primal, power was RE: Purring and my 2 cents.

Title: Savage, primal, power was RE: Purring and my 2 cents.

Define precivilization, because most of the Goddess/Primal Woman archetypes were found in the ruins of socially advanced societies. (Source: Stone, Johnson)

Also why did you use the term “savage” when you are referring to the Primal?

My opinion is that we can’t really pin-point exactly when the Slayer was made or from what she was made.  Supernatural energy or the essence of a demon. If she was made from the essence of a demon then she could be considered “self-aware” and thus the Slayer could be a separate entity.  If she is made of supernatural energy, *if* one considers it “just” energy, like plugging into an electrical outlet, then the Slayer would be no more self-aware than my blender. In my opinion what was actually shown on the screen left interpretation open to the imaginations of the viewers. Since viewers and readers bring their own histories to a story its impossible to say there are hard core *facts* and that other opinions aren’t valid.

Also a lot of pre-Christian societies worshipped the woman archetypes because she could give birth, she could bleed and not die, she was a nurturer, not a warrior and not wild. While in other societies she fought and hunted alongside her mate and was more than the protector of the young. We are talking about over 30,000 years of history here folks, in comparison Christianity is ONLY between 2 and 5 thousand years old depending on the source.  So again what exactly is “Pre-Civilization?” (Source: Stone, Johnson, Eisler)

Where does this leave Fan Fiction?  Wide open.  I like to make *my* Buffy a little primal, a little wild, with her totem animal a panther because they are the spiritual hunters of evil. (According to the Magazine Shaman’s Drum which is a sociology journal of native peoples in North and South America) I like to make her separate in some stories and “just” a power source in others.  I try to keep things open and wait until the last moment before I commit so that the story can tell me – in other words I keep an open mind in my own writing - so I keep my mind open when reading other author's stories.   (I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at or ridiculed other people’s visions like another author claimed to do a few posts ago.)

It is my opinion that our society’s biggest problem is our arrogance and the belief that someone who doesn’t think the same way is wrong and we are right.  That everything is black and white, you are either for us or against us.  Everything is open to interpretation. And, within the scope of human history, everything: governments, religions, it comes and goes.

In the venus OF continuing converation here is a seemingly innocous query:

In your opinion(Your meaning all B/W shippers, yes, you reading this right
now, I mean you.) assuming the slayer is a Quasi, or even totally seperate
entitiy, or even if it is not, is The Slayer a representataion of a Primal
Force or is it merely a Force(Force being defined as 'Supernatural Energy,
self-aware or otherwise) that was found, originally, in a pre-civilization,
savage female?

Why do you think so?

What would, or could, the difference mean for existing or potential fanfics?

Discuss.

Buffy:  "I kinda love you."
