Willow Rosenberg. It's a unique name for an equally unique individual.
It would be simple to describe her on the outside. Fiery red hair, green eyes, small
stature. Normal at first, right? So much more complex than that, however. Extremely
intelligent, beautiful. A computing wizard. More in the hacker area, she has gotten useful
information many times that has saved her friends lives. And more recently, a practitioner
of Wiccan spells.
Her personality. Kind, happy, loyal. She has a quality of innocence about her, but
she's not. She's shy, but strong willed. And that doesn't even begin to cover it. She has
qualities we all wish we had.
It's clear that she has never grown up in her family's eyes. She's definitely been a
sheltered person, and extremely self-conscious. And her only real friend for sixteen years
was Xander Harris.
Naturally, anyone would develop a crush on their childhood friend, especially because
they spent so much time together, and that's what Willow did. As they got older, Xander
showed no signs of having the same feelings towards her, and he directed most of his
hormonal attention to other girls.
In her sophomore year of high school, Buffy Summers came along. A girl seemingly
braver, more beautiful, and more outspoken than she (in her mind), she was shocked when
Buffy asked for her friendship. And little did she know that was only the beginning.
She soon found out, Buffy was different. She was the Slayer. Killed vampires, monsters,
shadows of the night. Buffy was also lonely and her life forced her to become an outcast.
Like she was. They weren't so different after all. They both became each other's support,
and best and only friends.
Willow had to do things she wasn't used to doing before. And not just helping to
destroy evil. She had to become the strong one. The rock. Many times, Buffy cried on her
shoulder, seeking comfort and someone to share her burden. Willow grew, and gained
confidence.
She was put into a coma trying to help her friend, and soon after she recovered, she
performed the soul restoration ritual to give Angel back his soul for Buffy. A potent
magick which she risked her life to do. Buffy's happiness and well being has always been
important to her. She has been glue that has held Buffy and the gang together.
After Buffy returned from fleeing Sunnydale, Willow was distraught. After an argument
and a lot of tears, they came out of it, their bond of friendship stronger than ever.
Willow continues to grow because of Buffy's influence, and change. But she has never
lost the qualities that always made her who she is. Taking the step toward a loving
relationship would so simple, so natural. |
