Well personally I tend to stick with the couples I ship, just because the fic holds my interest alot more if I'm invested in the pairing that it's about.  But I have noticed that I've been branching off in my pairings lately.  And I'm pretty sure it's because of fics that I've read about Buffy/Willow that have secondary pairings.

Case in point.  I was reading Chimera Bloom's series and Dawn/Faith is a secondary couple in one of the universes.  It intrigued me, and now I've been reading as much Dawn/Faith as I can find.  Same goes for  Angelina's series.  Buffy/Willow were the primary couple in the first one, and then she built up a Cordy/Faith pairing and now I've been reading a ton of F/C fics as well.  The only couple that I ship that I don't remember happening that way is Dawn/Tara, I think that cute little scene in 'Smashed' did it for me LOL
