Re: Somewhat O.T. Need help with latin translation...

Can't find my Latin books. They're not in the boxes with the rest of the
textbooks. That means that at some point I dug them out to use them for
something and then put them someplace they'd be easy to find if I needed
them again. And we all know how that works. I'll never see them again.

Anyway, looks like HD has got it covered. The new translations look good to
me. One suggestion, for give up, try using surrender. I suspect it will
translate better. And no, I can't remember the word for surrender without
my books either. It's been about 12 years since I did anything in Latin.

Hello...

As you can see by the subject line, I need help with some latin
translation.
Oh, well... Latin! I've had it for six years in school, but that's been ten
years ago, so I'm definitely not an expert. I'm surprised how much I
remember, though. But the major drawback is that I don't have a dictionary
here. I've
got one at home but that's definitely out of reach until the weekend. I
could go to the libary tomorrow, however, if that'll
help.

Here are my suggestions:

"Ampleuxus Willow," she whispered. (Love Willow)
If this is supposed to be the imperative singular ("Love Willow!"), "Willow
ama!" should be the almost correct translation. Almost, since 'Willow' is the
object here, so the name should be in accusative singular, but I'd recommend
to skip this because the name is not a Latin one.

"Willow ama," she whispered.

"Faveo haud timeo," Willow's body whispered. (Don't
be afraid)

"Ne timueris," Willow's body whispered.

"Faveo haud adversor..." (Don't fight it)
"Ne id pugnaveris..."

"Tu tuam mihi... tu usquequaque animus," she said,
kissing Buffy gently before stepping back. (You are
mine... you always will *be*)

"Mihi es... Mihi semper eris," she said, kissing Buffy gently before
stepping back.

"Etiam, redono," Buffy heard in her fevered mind.
(Yes... give up)

Have to look 'to give up' in the dictionary to help you here.

"Sedo pessum. Tu securus cum mihi. Tu animus recordor
solum quemadmodum stare tu ad," Willow's body said.
(Calm down. You are safe with me. You will remember
only what I wish you to)

Same. Have to look some words up.

"Somnus Giles," she whispered. (Sleep Giles)

'Somnus' is the noun 'sleep', but 'to sleep' is 'dormire', so assuming you
meant the imperative ("Sleep, Giles!"), this must be:

"Giles dormi," she whispered.

You don't remember this morning, commoneo. (Remember)
You don't remember this morning, commone!

"Redeo." (Come back)
Again, imparative assumed, this should be:

"Reveni!"

Hope this helps.

Bye,
HD
