Title: Kryptonite (6/?)
Author: Carmen
E-mail: ortiz_c4021@h...
Disclaimer: None of these characters belong to me. The Scooby Gang
and
friends belong to Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. All characters from
the DCU
do not belong to me I'm just taking out for a ride through my twisted
imagination, Adrienne Mackenzie Prince-Kent is mine.
Rating: For now PG-13 to R depending on your point of view.
Summary: In the DCU eighteen years ago during a battle with Darksied,
a
strange and mysterious anomaly occurred , unleashed by an experiment
by
Julian September at a critical time and out of this anomaly was born
a child
to two of the most powerful heroes of the JLA, now attending UC
Sunnydale,
she will become the Slayers greatest ally.
Author's Note: This is really more of a Faith/Other romance with
Buffy/Willow pairing as well. Faith redeemed herself and is still
part of
the Scoobies in my story. Also I've messed with the timeline on a
lot of
stuff. Joyce Summers lives!!!
Hey Blair Ryan, as promised secret 1, more to come, and remember we
all have
more than one.
Distribution: I like sharing, just give me a heads up.
Feedback? Yes please!!

Previously on Kryptonite?
Reaching out before she knew what she was doing Adrienne tucked
Faiths' hair
behind her ear and placed her hand at her nape. Moving closer she
unconsciously licked her lips.
'Oh this is a bad idea,' Adrienne thought.
"You know," she said conversationally, "one of these days I'm going
to have
to take you to the island."
"The island?" Faith asked confused.
"Themyscria," Adrienne said, "the Amazon Nation. They have the most
beautiful land I've seen, it's peaceful when the two tribes aren't
arguing,
but I think you'll fit right in Arts' tribe."
Beep beep.
Stepping away from Faith she searched through her desk for the comm.
"Hello?"
"You busy?"
Glancing at Faith she replied, "You don't call unless it's important."
Barbara grimaced into the headset, 'I'll pay you back, promise.'
"I need you to make a delivery, she'll be ready for pickup in two
minutes."
"I'll be there in a few, bye."
"Bye."
Looking apologetically at Faith she said, "I've got to go," she
paused, "You
know in all the time I've known you I've noticed that you've never
talked
about boyfriends, why is that?"
"I like to alternate," Faith replied saucily, "plus most guys are
more
interested in fucking than dating, so we usually skip that."
Without hesitating Adrienne asked, "So you free tomorrow night?"
Now on Kryptonite?..
Picking up Cassandra Cain, the new Batgirl, and taking her to a
Government
facility in Germany was uneventful. She liked her and hoped that she
wouldn't get too caught up in `the mission.'
She needed some fun, down time, something to fill the time that she's
not
patroling Gothem. Patroling, she knew way too many people who patrol
places.
Shaking her head ruefully she waited outside an electric fence
behind
dense brush for her cargo.
As she waited her thoughts turned back to Faiths answer.
"Before or after patrol?"
"Okay lets make this more official, Faith?"
Smiling and playing along Faith answered moving back to the bed
getting very
comfortable, "Yes," she drawled knowing that her pose was very
inviting.
Swallowing Adrienne took a deep breath, "Would you like to go out
with me?"
"You sure you want to be seen with me?"
"Yes," she said slightly forceful, "I seriously don't like it when
you do
that, you know."
"Do what?"
"Put yourself down, I don't like when people do that to themselves."
"Call it a habit," she shrugged.
`One I intend of breaking you from,' she smiled inwardly already
thinking of
a plan of action.
"Tomorrow night, before patrol we'll catch a movie, go patrol, meet
the guys
at the Bronze, then call it a night. Sound good?"
"A movie?" Faith questioned.
"Call me slightly old fashioned, must get it from my father," she
took some
black clothes out of a drawer and stepped into the bathroom.
Seconds later she emerged wearing formfitting soft black jeans,
boots, and a
black sweater.
"Sweet dreams," she called out as she opened the window and leaped
into the
sky.
--------------------------
The door opened and the minion bowed respectfully as Ra Al Ghul
entered
Glory's apartment. He was followed by his faithful guard, as the two
waited
for the Demon Goddess to appear.
"Was everything to your liking?" she asked.
"Yes, soon everything we both have wanted for so long will be ours,
something does trouble me though," he said.
"What would that be?" she asked, trying to be on her best behavior.
"Just, should she actually learn the true nature of our plot, hidden
within
Tempus' it would be prudent to have another temporal ready to
continue."
"Another one," she couldn't help but whine.
"Yes," he said irritably, "these saccharine goody heroes always find
a way
to stop one opponent, but two is to our advantage."
"Of course," she said, "it will be done."
"See to it."
--------------------------------
"Okay Pa, I promise," Clark Kent said into the phone.
"Tell them I said `hi'," Lois said from her typewriter.
Nodding Clark said, "Pa Lois said hello, yes okay. Lois they said
hello
back."
"Bye."
Hanging up he leaned against the desk smiling at his wife waiting for
her to
finish before saying anything. Her piece on a new crime boss
attempting to
merge with the Chinese mafia would probably win her another award.
But she
couldn't wait for it to be over so they could catch the first flight
out to
California.
"All done," she said, "let me just send this off to the office and we
can
get out of here."
Adrienne had called late last night telling them that anytime they
had for
visiting would be great and that there was a special someone that she
wanted
them to meet. While her relationship with Adrienne wasn't as close
as with
Diana's, Lois was thrilled when they did things together.
One night when Adrienne was sixteen, and staying for a school year
due to
changes in Themyscria, she had confessed to Lois about her feelings
on
various issues. The one that started it all was Adrienne's fear that
Lois
might resent her. Truth be told, when she had been told of the
incident she
had mixed feelings, but that was due to Professor Emil Hamilton's
finding on
the newly married couple.
Diana had gone to stay in Themyscria as soon as it got too dangerous
to keep
a public life and a heroes one as well. Her mother and the Amazon
Artemis
had for the time being assumed the role of Wonder Woman. She had
been
invited to the birth and before hand she and Diana had talked about
what
they both hoped for the unborn child.
Talking about what she was going though with Diana had opened up a
new
dimension to a well established friendship between the two women. It
had
been agreed at the request of Diana that the baby would grow to know
both
women as her mother. At first Lois was skeptical at this course of
action
but when Diana stressed her fear that should one day she should die
for
whatever reasons, the baby would be raised by someone who was already
family.
To be thought of as family, that was mind-blowing especially when for
as
long as she could remember her only sister Lucy had been closer to
her than
anyone. To be chosen above Hippolyta, Diana's own mother went beyond
that,
Diana's reasons were that she knew that Lois and Clark would never
stand
between the baby and her heritage, or impede her in her choices.
Yep, that night was an eye opener. After talking and calming
Adrienne's
fears about their relationship they moved on to more personal
discussions,
and at Lois' urging and support she revealed to her friends and
family her,
alternative tastes.
`Oh yeah,' Lois thought sending her story through the fax, `this
Faith chick
had better be something.'
---------------------------------
Dr. Occult looked out into the dark night as the lightning flashed
illuminating the England countryside on the other side of the window.
'This can not bode well,' he thought as he felt the anomaly again, it
was
different somehow from the last time.
"Dear God!" it dawned on him, "It's changing!"
---------------------------------
Dropping Cassandra off on the roof of some nameless building Adrienne
flew
close to the shadows to enter Barbara's apartment undetected by the
eyes of
Gothem's citizens.
"Babs?" Adrienne called out, "You here?"
"I'll be right there," Barbara called out, "so how are things?"
"Fine, but there's something that worries me," Adrienne began knowing
that
even in the face of her closest friend she couldn't come completely
clean
about her greatest fear.
"The pain."
Nodding Adrienne seated herself on the couch and cradled her head in
her
hands. The pain, two simple words that carried one of her most
complex
secrets. It was only a few years ago that she attempted speed up her
powers
maturity, only a few years ago that Doomsday had fought her father to
the
death, and she had refused to stand by and do nothing.
And in doing so had created her own death.
Professor Hamilton had described her physiology as a scale,
attempting to
balance her Kryptonian and Human DNA. Her invulnerability was a
product of
that imbalance because the anomaly that had created her had yet to
stabilize
and if it did not do so soon within the next eight years she would
die,
because of her untimely trip to the Fortress of Solitude to attempt
to boost
up on solar power which she hadn't been completely sure her human DNA
could
handle she had quickened the timetable and was looking at two years
at the
most to live.
Her parents did not know, and Barbara had only found out when she had
been
hit by the first of many sudden attacks. Attacks that she had become
proficient at hiding most of the time. Pain so strong hitting her
with such
force that it immobilized her for however long it lasted.
Thankfully her meta-healing kicked in and she was fine usually within
thirty
minutes. She often wondered what would have happened if she hadn't
gone to
the fortress, but then again hindsight was always twenty-twenty. Her
father
lived, the threat of Doomsday was gone and overall things were good.
Now if
she could just get through this date with Faith all would be well in
the
world.
Now she shared half of her fear with her friend and mentor, the
pain. The
other half which she hadn't divulged to her friend out of fear that
she
would feel obligated to tell her parents about her problem and
involve the
JLA, the other half which was that she had been feeling strange,
different
something unstable within her since she began to use her powers in
Sunnydale, the Hellmouth.
She had been wrestling with herself and felt her only course was to
work
with Professor Hamilton and one of the guardians of earth magic,
perhaps
then she would find not only the reason for the Hellmouths affect on
her but
also a permanent cure for her.
"So how have you been holding up?"
"I have been and that's all that matters, for now," she paused, "look
I uh,
stopped by to ask about the suit."
Smirking Babs briefly wondered about why Adrienne would bring this up
now,
"Oh."
"Yeah, could I make sure that the changes that you recommended make
it to
the finished product."
"Why?" Babs teased.
"Cause I'd look funny running around in the middle on the night with
bright
spandex like half of the JLA," she joked, "seriously you were right,
of
course back then we, or at least I, didn't know I'd have interesting
night
time activities."
"Hey the colors we had considered would be great for both night and
day."
"One more thing, I'm not still sure about," she slouched, "the cape,
do I
really need one?"
"Why not?"
"Sunnyhell is not like Gothem, and frankly I feel silly with a cape."
"Just be glad that it's the best in Kevlar technology, plus the
gauntlets
and little extra treats in the belt will come in handy in case of,
well you
know."
"Yeah, thanks."
"I'll send it to you as soon as it's done, oh one more thing,"
Barbara
looked expectantly at Adrienne.
"Nothing." Adrienne replied without being told.
She wasn't quite ready to choose whose proud emblem to incorporate
into her
uniform, if either.
"You know," she paused, "it just hit me, I've got a date."
Laughing suddenly she moved in a blur to Babs wheelchair whirling
around as
they both laughed. That was a good thing to hear, it had been too
long,
idly Adrienne wondered if there was someone other than Dick in
Barbara's
life.
"Don't forget, your dad's visiting too," Babs reminded her.
'Oh man,' she thought, "Lois is gonna grill Faith, oh is she in for a
surprise."
"Maybe you should warn her."
"Nah, Faith can handle it."
"I wasn't talking about Faith," Barbara reiterated.
Winking Adrienne said, "I know."
-----------------------------------
Arriving at her dorm room Adrienne quietly slipped in through the
window
making as little noise as possible so as not to wake the sleeping
Faith.
Entering the bathroom she changed and brushed her teeth when a small
spasm
of pain hit her.
Breathing hard she felt it recede which was a good thing, but it
didn't bode
well for tommorrow. This was just a predecessor to a very huge
attack,
something she hadn't had since the first day back from the Fortress.
It was
that attack that had stopped her from reaching Doomsday and her
father in
time.
Her one shot at helping turned into a mightmare.
Part of the reason she hadn't ever gotten completely involved in the
hero
game. Sure she help Oracle out once in a while, but she never did
the
missions. Until she had met the Scoobies she had lost all her faith
that
what they were fighting for was acheivable.
Who know that in a rag tag group of world savers she would once again
find
Faith, her Faith.
She had been in too long she had to go and get some sleep. And as
much as
she would love to nestle against Faith now was not the time, but
maybe later
when she knew that they were both ready.
Yep, time enough for that later.
