One of the more difficult goals in fanfiction, I believe, is placing the characters in canon situations with non-canon relationships, and making it work. That's probably the reason there's so much good Willow/Tara fic on the web. The writers don't have to explain or justify the 'ship because it already exists, so they can concentrate on the story itself. But to take a scene from the show, make one basic assumption, extrapolate from there, and still have the scene read as the original is quite an accomplishment. IMHO, you've done just that, and done it well. The characterizations are true, the history makes sense, and the added dialogue and action meshes seamlessly with the original. 

If this is a bit rusty, I'd really like to see all polished and lightly oiled.
