(no, that's not a code--I just got lazy)
[Whaddaya mean, "got"?] (shush!)
Yeah, I do get a little "overly" on the reviews. The price of passion,
I guess. Or insanity.
And I haven't seen any Spike-love stuff either, at least not pre-"Dead
Things". (BTW, you're not the only one not doing much rewatching this
year.)
But since they haven't closed the door, I'm affrighted that they're
going to have Buffy discover her hidden feelings that she was hiding
behind her lust and disgust. Like I said, I don't see a lot of forks in
this road.
On the practicality of B/W (current indications aside):
Well, Amber doesn't have a Season 7 contract, and she wants to direct,
so maybe Tara will hit the bricks and open up possiblities.
And there has been a nice progression (didn't I do this one time
before?):
Season 1--meet and instantly bond
Season 2--both lose their "Innocence" about the loves of their lives,
pretty much simultaneously
Season 3--B/F sparkage, VampWillow gives a "kind of" clue.
Season 4--Willow discovers women, slowly moving into a relationship
Season 5--W/T as an open, established, loving couple (but eventually
cracks appear); Buffy learns that she doesn't have to throw herself
into new relationships all the time. (No coffee for you, Ben!)
So it wouldn't be too weird to go to:
Season 6--Buffy falls for the worst guy ever, and comes to realize that
what she really needs isn't guy-shaped at all; Willow also goes on a
journey of discovery, and finds out that there's someone who thinks
she's "special" even without the magic.
As for the ratings issue--UPN (not the WB; that's a delayed-action
"thwap"!) has already ordered Season 7, the show is last in its slot
anyway, Buffy's known for unconventional relationships, and Willow's
already out--how badly would this really hurt?? It's not like the show
pulls in the "Touched By An Angel" demographic, anyway. Plus, it'd get
a brickload of attention, and UPN mostly wants the show as a loss
leader, a publicity magnet, anyhow.
W/T is just decoration--B/W would be a true story of feminine
empowerment and self-discovery. Grab that Emmy, already, Joss!
Wishin' and hopin' (and prayin' and beggin'),
Dan
