<<Ok - one more thing that I forgot to mention in my earlier post. I think that the whole discovery of Buffy being placed into an institution for 3 weeks when her parents first found out she was a slayer could add to the whole slayer = gay metaphor theory. Let me explain. Though its not necessarily as common now adays when a teen confesses to their parents that they are gay...it still occurs that the parents first reaction is to send the kid off to a psychiatrist.
I'm not trying to sell anything short...but from my experiences working with the "Outyouth" organization (a club for gay teens), that does occur.

That's very interesting.  It's never occured to me.  I do know that we've seen through the show many hints that may just be obvious to me.  I find it interesting that Slayers are always female, I know the theory has risen that males wouldn't be able to handle the power, and would be too agressive and rage driven, but I also think it could relate deeper than that.   I think it relates, at least a little, to the whole female center, mother earth, goddess incarnate powers.  Women are sensual, beautiful, and elegant, while still being strong and determined.  I think this in part is why Buffy and Faith had such great chemistry.

Faith was Buffy's shadow self, embracing all the dark and primal sides of her gift, where as Buffy embraced the morality and duty of the calling.  Faith gave Buffy a glimpse of something that was inside of her, no matter how much she tried to deny it.  Now a lot of people think that it means Buffy should be with Faith.  I do think they had great chemistry, and sexual tension, but I think it was based more on the fact that Faith opened Buffy's eyes to what she really is.  Buffy has a dark, sexual, primal side to her.  But I think instead of giving into that, she needs to find a happy medium.  And I, of course, think that medium could be with Willow.
