My first thought when I saw the opening scene was what the hell was Buffy thinking? She gets attacked by this huge strong monster, who stick a needle in her arm pit, and what does she do? She goes home like nothing happened. By this point in her life if she knows anything, it's that when she's stuck, poked, probbed, or scratched up then left alive that she needs to tell the gang so that they can make sure it isn't for some reason such as poision or nasty yucky virus's.

Not only that but she had a vision. So does she tell them? No. It takes her several episodes and their forcing it out of her for her to fess up. Now, surely she realized that those visions had to have something to do with the demon.

Maybe she didn't tell them because she has a death wish, or maybe it was because she was scared and confused. Or maybe she simply thought it would go away. Unfortunately, she still should have at least told Willow so they could be sure.

Now the Willow/Buffy thing.

One of the reason's for so much Willow Buffy shipping going on, is for a more dramatic result. We all know that in the next couple of new episodes that Tara is going to be killed and Willow is going to go over the edge. So in a way Joss is trying to make it as dramatic and heartbreaking as possible.

You can be sure that Joss and his team check out the popularity of different ships on the web. Fanfic sites, information sites for ships, etc. So he gives us something to indicate a possible future for them, something that would indicate love between them, so that when Willow turns on them it will be all that harder.

We don't even have to guess what Buffy's response will be to have Willow not only lose her lover but to go evil. If we look deeper we have another Buffy/Angel storyline. Buffy hints that she's in love with Willow, she admits time and time again that Willow is her foundation, her best friend, the one that she can trust wholey and completely, the one that will never let her down, and will always be there for her no matter what she does. She tells Willow her fears, and secrets that she hasn't told anyone else.

But then Tara dies, in terms of the Angel storyline, Willow's soul, and Willow turns into Angelues. So blinded by the need of revenge that she goes on a killing spree. The question is how will she get her soul back? Who's going to be her Willow? Will it be Tara back from the dead? Buffy?

This storyline could be a blessing or a curse for the Buffy/Willow shippers. Think of it this way. We know that Buffy will be unable to kill Willow. She couldn't do that, but she will go to any extreme to get her back. Maybe even going as far as openly admitting she loves her, or maybe some other way. But on to this episode...

I believe that Buffy has been caught in a constant state of being unsure about any decision she's being forced to make. I think that's one of the reasons for this episode was to show Buffy starting to take full responsiblity in making her decisions instead of letting Spike, Willow, or any of the other scoobies. Other times she seems to let fate decide and just flow with it. But in this episode she had to make a very clear decision.

Spike in this was interesting. I think he'd decided that 1) If he couldn't have her than no one could, and/or 2) that by attacking her mind when she was so confused and scared that he would be able to force her into either A) giving her body if not her heart to him and/or B) to try and seperate her from the Scoobies.

In his mind as long as the Scoobies are in her life, they are going to keep her anchored in the more moral human world. Buffy depends on Willow to help keep her moral compass, her innocence, her humor, etc, in prospective. Dawn helps keep her responsible, sensible, and more familia responses. Xander is the one that shows her that no matter what there's always a way to laugh, crack a joke, or brush off the harshest most dangerous situations.

Spike knows this, and he knows that as long as they are in her life that Buffy will remain with them. They will always be more important than anyone else in the world. Hence, his continous instistance that she run off with him, the threats of telling them about their non-relationship, the pushing her to tell them the truth, the constant attempts to turn her against them, to make them look bad.

When he pushed Buffy so hard, she found herself trapped between a world where she was insane, and the possiblity of losing the people she cared about because of her mistake. To her, she'd lost the ability to choose, because he took that from her. He took that control over her life, so she choose the the fantasy. A place where she still had some control over her life. Then when she came back to her reality, she decided that if she was going to lose her friends anyway that it was going to be on her terms.

So what does she do? She tries to kill them, something she had no intention of ever doing. If you look at the scene, she breaks the chain then goes and sits under the stairs. That alone shows that she wouldn't go through with it. Let's face it, she knew that she couldn't stand to watch Willow or the others get killed off, so instead of leaving and letting it happen then coming back to make sure they're dead, what does she do? She watches.

But then Willow triggers her need to remain with her friends, and as such forces her to make a final decision. Joyce herself says that Buffy has a strong heart and that she knows she will follow her heart, and Buffy does. She goes after the demon that dared to lay a hand on her Willow. But anyway....I think that's all I have to say. I guess. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.
