Re: OT: Unaired Buffy Pilot

I happened to come across the unaired pilot a while back on Bear Share too.
I was definitely surprised to see how different things would have been
without Aly. No offense to the original actress either, Riff Regan just
wasn't Willow. The scene that I can remember of Buffy and Willow is pretty
different from the WttH. If my memory serves me correctly, Willow goes up to
Buffy to help her catch up and Buffy accepts her offer. They're walking
along the outside of SH and Cordy comes up to Buffy and Buffy takes off with
Cordy.

I definitely didn't like that part. It was completely the opposite in WttH,
Buffy goes to Will, Buffy ditches Cordy in favor of Will. That' showed their
connection, that foreshadowed the next 6 years with them and the bond they
had. The original presentation that they pitched to the networks wasn't
nearly as nice, and not just because of the low budget SFX.

I remember I read somewhere, either Joss or Aly herself, that when they were
recasting Willow, Joss had a favorite, the network had a different one, and
Aly was the one in the middle. During her audition, which she tested with
Sarah and Nicky, she goofed up the lines with the techie talk. She thought
she bombed it, but Joss told her that she had instant and amazing chemistry
with Sarah and Nicky, and that the three of them just clicked. And
apparently that was the deciding factor in her casting.

So maybe Joss took advantage of that chemistry and built from there, changing
from the original presentation and sparking the Willow/Buffy connection right
away. :)

All I can say is thank gosh for Aly though. I'm almost 100% positive I
wouldn't be a B/W shipper if Aly wasn't Willow.
