OT - "Seeing Red" spoilers
I thought I'd add my two cents about the most recent ep. I'm also going to comment on a few comments that I've been reading since the ep aired.

I think thats enough......here goes:
I've been reading everyone's views on 'Seeing Red'...and
I've begun to see red myself. There are so many pissed
off fans....they have been all season long...
This season started off extraordinary. Seeing telepathic
Willow commanding the scoobies in the graveyard...was just
one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Then came the fawn
and my world was shattered. You see...I identify with Willow.
I have since WTTH....I was a high school nerd....i later came
out...I now work with computers.....etc. Anyway, to see the
change in Willow was horrifying for me...for about a minute.
Then I remembered how much I changed from high school to college.
In high school (i'm from a small town, ok) I thought all pot
smokers were bad....the right to choose was an abomination...and
hey...i thought the Catholic church could do no wrong. Boy,
was I quickly enlightened and do a complete 'bout face.
Anyway....Buffy has always been more about real life with its
metaphors than practically any other show on tv. Yes...there
has always been the fun power house kicking...a small blonde saving the
world - alot...two outcasts empowered by their friendship and
aliance with a super hero...so ...AND...there have always been way cool
metaphors depicting very real things.
The characters have grown. The show has evolved. New issues
have been tackled on the show...hec since practically ep 1
the show has been saying...its ok to be different...they even
said almost blatantly at times (before w/t) its ok to be gay....(budding
connection between B/W that very first day).
Now everyone is pissed off as I mentioned earlier. People feel
like they've been abandoned by Joss....first we had the horrible
Spuffy...now the death of Tara...a positive gay character for
many. I understand how that really hurts some...when I was
growing up...there were NO positive gay characters on TV...in
fact in the movies there was only 1 movie shown in the small
town were I grew up on HBO and I caught it late one night after
parents went to sleep ("Personal Best")..In the end...the girl
goes with the studly guy. We is the empowerment there?? Anyway,
we have it WAY better today as far as positive gay role models
go. The simple fact that the # 2 lead character in a drama
was allowed to explore jer sexuality and realize that they
preferred the same gender...ON TV at 7PM at night...is almost
a miracle...it would NEVER have happened in the 80s...never.
So, I can't get too upset about whats happened. The show is a
drama...and boy have we been given some drama this season....
There hasn't been one ep where it didn't end and I wasn't either
extremely pissed off myself...or elated about one thing or
another.
I for one am PLeASED as pie with "Seeing Red". I just don't
know how any thing could get Spuffy back together now....thank
goodness.
As for Tara, the show may be a fantasy on the surface...but the
show is more about real-life angst than any other. If you think
about it...it always has been. Its always been about love, trust,
friendship, jealousy, etc. The gun WAS pointed upward as Warren was
running out of the yard. Tara had conveniently moved to a
position by the window to where the bullet could have hit her as it did.
And then there is Willow. A lot of list members have been noting how
detached B/W are...that Willow just disregarded
the bruise on the leg...well....Buffy had a look on her face as soon
as she saw Willow that said..."Oh God, she can't see this...she'll
know about me and Spike...Oh no...not Willow...I can't face the shame
of discussing what I've done with Spike to Willow..." - Buffy
seemed completely ashamed to me. Plus, Buffy had yet to speak with Willow
about Spike. And another thing...Willow still feels guilty
for yanking Buffy out of heaven. yes...they need to talk...but Willow,
being the kind hearted..."I don't want to embarrass buffy" person
that she is...just let it drop about the bruise. Besides...for all we know it was another
example of bad editing. They immediately cut to the scene downstairs
where they went over the schematics.
I'm done now. I liked "Seeing Red". I can't WAIT until next week...
there have only been 2 other times this season that I've been able to
say that...and I'm pleased as punch about it.
Keep watching gang....I thought I was going to hate season 5...but
check out that ending...BtVS finales are the best!!!
